Job SummaryThe HVAC Mechanic is responsible for overseeing the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R) systems. This role ensures the reliable and efficient performance of mechanical systems while maintaining compliance with applicable codes, safety standards, and facility requirements. The position supports critical facility operations and requires strong technical expertise and a proactive approach to system maintenance and problem-solving.
KeyRoles and Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair HVAC/R systems including heating systems, ventilation systems, air conditioners, refrigeration units, pumps, desiccant dehumidification systems, chillers, cooling towers, and clean steam humidification systems.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on HVAC/R infrastructure.
- Inspect systems to identify deficiencies, potential failures, and implement corrective actions.
- Lead HVAC/R-related maintenance and repair projects within facility operations without supervisory authority.
- Serve as a lead, coordinating the work of others without direct supervisory authority.
- Develop scopes of work for system repairs, upgrades, and maintenance activities.
- Coordinate work activities effectively with team members, contractors, and clients to ensure projects are completed efficiently and on schedule.
- Maintain accurate service records and documentation of work performed.
- Ensure all work complies with local, state, and federal safety regulations and codes.
- Provide off‑hour support for scheduled repairs, preventive maintenance activities, and operational assistance during weather‑related events as required.
- Participate in a scheduled on‑call rotation to provide support for emergency situations outside of normal business hours.
- Contribute to the overall success of Facilities Management & Engineering (FME) by performing additional essential duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Responsible for leading and coordinating the delivery of complex technical and/or administrative business support or services.
- Work independently under limited supervision.
- Act as a lead, coordinating the work of others but is not a supervisor.
- Accountable for the on‑time delivery of work.
- May be responsible for coaching/mentoring more junior employees but has no direct supervisory responsibility.
- Support the achievement of goals through personal effort in own work area and potentially outside of own work team and/or department.
- Possess advanced and specialized expertise, developed through a combination of job‑related training and considerable on‑the‑job experience.
- Extract, verify, and compile objective and measurable data selectively.
