Overview

The Fredericksburg Field House is seeking a dependable, hands-on Handyman / Facilities Maintenance Attendant to ensure our 76,000+ square-foot indoor sports and events facility remains safe, clean, and fully operational. This part-time role involves general building maintenance, preventative maintenance, minor repairs, coordinating with outside vendors, and maintaining the overall appearance and functionality of the facility. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, organized, mechanically inclined, and enjoys solving problems in a fast-paced environment serving athletes, families, and community events.

Compensation

Part-time hourly rate: $17.00 – $19.00 per hour.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Facility Maintenance:
    Perform routine inspections of the building, equipment, and grounds to identify maintenance needs.
  • Preventative maintenance:
    Complete maintenance on HVAC systems, lighting, plumbing fixtures, doors, locks, flooring, bleachers, and other facility assets.
  • General carpentry, painting, drywall repair, basic electrical work, and minor plumbing repairs.
  • Repair and replace fixtures, hardware, ceiling tiles, and other building components as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and functionality of storage areas, mechanical rooms, and maintenance equipment.
  • Set up and tear down equipment for sporting events, tournaments, and special events when needed.
  • Assist with snow removal, ice treatment, and exterior property maintenance as required.
  • Coordinate and schedule third-party contractors for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire suppression, security, janitorial, landscaping, and other specialized services.
  • Serve as the primary on-site contact for maintenance vendors during scheduled work.
  • Obtain quotes for repair projects and communicate recommendations to management.
  • Verify work is completed according to scope, schedule, and quality expectations.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with service providers and contractors.
  • Track warranties, service agreements, inspection schedules, and preventative maintenance contracts.
Maintenance Planning & Administration
  • Maintain maintenance logs, work orders, and preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Monitor inventory of maintenance supplies, tools, and repair materials.
  • Recommend facility improvements and capital repair projects.
  • Assist in developing annual maintenance plans and budgets.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, OSHA guidelines, and local building codes.
  • Respond promptly to facility emergencies and urgent maintenance issues.
Safety & Operations
  • Help maintain a safe environment for guests, athletes, staff, and visitors.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and report hazards immediately.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Three or more years of general building maintenance or handyman experience preferred.
  • Experience working with commercial facilities is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and general building systems.
  • Experience coordinating vendors and outside contractors.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple maintenance requests in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Basic computer skills for work orders, email, and maintenance tracking.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, bend, kneel, crouch, and stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays based on facility events and maintenance needs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or building maintenance certifications.
  • Experience working in sports, recreation, hospitality, or event venues.
  • Forklift, scissor lift, or boom lift certification or experience.
