Job Summary

The Maintenance Technician III performs advanced, skilled maintenance and construction tasks to support safe, efficient, and well-maintained facilities across Region
4. This role leads maintenance projects, provides technical guidance to staff on proper maintenance and construction methods, and assists the Maintenance Supervisor with planning, prioritizing, and coordinating major facility needs. The position does not supervise staff but serves as a technical resource and project lead with responsibility for executing work to high safety and quality standards.

Job Responsibilities
  • Perform hands-on maintenance, repair, installation, and construction work across all building systems, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and general facility operations.
  • Lead assigned maintenance projects from planning through completion, including coordinating tasks, sequencing work, and ensuring projects meet safety and quality standards.
  • Provide direction and technical guidance to maintenance staff on work methods, equipment use, and construction techniques, without serving in a supervisory capacity.
  • Assist the Maintenance Supervisor in developing project plans, maintenance schedules, and timelines.
  • Conduct routine and frequent facility inspections to identify maintenance needs, safety issues, and repair requirements; communicate findings promptly to the Supervisor.
  • Implement and support preventative maintenance programs for facilities, equipment, and systems.
  • Perform safety inspections at worksites, identify hazards, and communicate corrective actions to the Supervisor to ensure compliance with safety requirements.
  • Obtain material and labor estimates for maintenance projects; assist with procurement documentation, quotes, vendor contacts, and justifications in accordance with agency purchasing procedures.
  • Coordinate with external contractors for specialized repairs, installations, and technical work; monitor contractor performance and report updates to the Supervisor.
  • Track Work In Progress (WIP) data, receipts, and expenditures, maintaining accurate project documentation and supporting budget adherence.
  • Maintain inventory of tools, equipment, materials, and supplies; identify replenishment needs and communicate them to the Supervisor.
  • Respond to emergency maintenance situations, to ensure safety and continuity of facility operations.
  • Assist the Maintenance Supervisor with ensuring all facilities and maintenance operations comply with safety standards, laws, regulations, and agency requirements.
  • Maintain high-quality work standards, ensuring all maintenance activities meet industry benchmarks and health and safety regulations.
  • Monitor inventory levels of tools, supplies, materials, and equipment, and ensure availability for ongoing and upcoming projects.
  • Will think and act quickly and efficiently in emergencies.
  • Will drive on Agency business.
  • Physical presence at the worksites is required.
  • Follow the agency’s timecard, PTO (Paid Time Off), and California’s rest and meal period policies.
  • Employees are expected to manage their cell phone use so that the Agency cell phone stipend covers all business usage. Any calls not covered by the stipend are to be made on a company landline or company issued cell phone.

Job Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of journeyman-level vocational training or apprenticeship preferred.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., HVAC, electrical, CMRP - Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional) preferred.
  • Significant experience performing advanced maintenance and construction tasks across multiple trades.
