Temporary Laborer

Laborer is a semi‑skilled, maintenance‑class position in which incumbents perform a variety of services on City facilities and property. This temporary position supports the maintenance and safety of City facilities and public spaces used by Fresno residents. Under supervision, laborers perform building, equipment, grounds, or manual maintenance work and operate light equipment. May be required to operate electronic devices such as computers, cell phones, and tablets.

Depending on assignment, incumbents may be required to work with adult offenders and parolees. Incumbents may also be required to work weekends, holidays, nights, and may work independently or as a member of a work crew. This temporary, non‑benefited position works no more than 32 hours per week. Employees do not participate in the City’s pension system or receive City‑sponsored benefits.

• Perform a variety of building, equipment, grounds, or manual maintenance work on City facilities and property.
• Operate light equipment and electronic devices such as computers, cell phones, and tablets.
• Work independently or as a member of a work crew, including weekends, holidays, and nights.
• Support the maintenance and safety of City facilities and public spaces used by Fresno residents.

• One (1) year of continuous, full‑time paid general labor or comparable experience.
• Experience may include work involving maintenance, construction, groundskeeping, custodial services, or other labor‑intensive tasks.
• Possession of a valid California Driver’s License may be required at the time of appointment. Candidates must provide proof of a valid driver’s license and a current copy of their driving record.

Selected candidates will be required to successfully pass a department interview and a Department of Justice fingerprint prior to employment. Candidates must also complete a background investigation before employment.
