Responsibilities- Maintain the facility grounds and ensure buildings operate safely and efficiently.
- Maintain an inventory of supplies, donated items, and a tool control system.
- Schedule and perform duties associated with maintenance of the facility and grounds.
- Respond to routine emergencies and perform normal repairs.
- Define problems and provide assessments for items that must be repaired or replaced.
- Respond to work orders on a daily basis.
- Transport clients outside of the facility, e.g., to perform job duties and attend appointments.
- Participate in daily shift exchange, including documenting in the facility log at the end of the shift and thoroughly reviewing the log at the start of the shift.
- Embrace and embody the mission, vision, guiding principles, clinical vision and goals of West Care Foundation.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Five (5) years’ experience in general semi‑skilled maintenance and repair work, or as a building maintenance or construction trades worker.
- Experience working with individuals and groups in a confined setting is preferred.
- Knowledge of common methods, practices and materials used in maintenance and repair of buildings and facilities.
- Familiarity with the various tools used in building maintenance and repair work and their proper employment and care.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to work well in a team environment.
- Superior organizational skills.
- Strong computer skills, encompassing all Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion.
- Adherence to the highest standard of ethical conduct, especially regarding confidentiality.
- Professional appearance and demeanor.
- Sensitivity to populations served.
- Ability to obtain and maintain clearance from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), LEIE, MSIL, and EPLS.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain and maintain West Care’s vehicle insurance.
- CPR Certification, First Aid Certification and an annual Tuberculosis test.
Work is primarily performed in an office or residential treatment setting; some outdoor activities may be required.
Physical Demands- Requires mobility and physical activity: adequate range of motion needed for office, residential, or outdoor environments, including standing, walking on even and uneven surfaces, sitting for extended periods, bending, twisting, reaching, balancing, and occasional lifting and carrying of up to 10 pounds. Use of computer and telephone systems is required, involving coordination of eye and hand, fine manipulation (typing, writing, file work).
Ability to defend oneself and clients in physically abusive situations through approved de‑escalation techniques. - Requires talking: express or exchange ideas orally with employees, clients, patients, and the public, conveying detailed or important spoken instructions accurately, loudly, or quickly.
- Requires hearing: receive and communicate detailed information through oral communication.
- Requires seeing: clarity of vision at 20 inches or less and at distance, necessary for completed paperwork and observing client behavior and activities inside and outside the facility.
- The normal work routine involves no exposure to human blood, body fluids or tissues, but exposure or potential exposure may be required as a condition of employment. Appropriate personal protective equipment will be available.
- Ability to collect and analyze complex numerical and written data and verbal information to reach logical conclusions.
- Ability to work and cooperate with clients, co‑workers, managers, the public and employees at all levels to exchange ideas, information, instructions and opinions.
- Ability to work under stress and in emotionally charged settings.
- Ability to defend oneself and clients in mentally/verbally abusive situations using approved mental/verbal de‑escalation techniques.
