Maintenance Supervisor
The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for leading the daily operations of the maintenance department to maximize equipment uptime, reliability, and productivity. This hands-on leadership role combines technical expertise with strong supervisory skills to oversee preventive maintenance programs, troubleshoot production equipment, and manage toolroom operations. The ideal candidate has extensive experience with metal stamping dies, tooling, fixtures, automated assembly equipment, and continuous improvement initiatives in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
EssentialFunctions / Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise maintenance technicians and toolroom personnel, providing direction, training, and performance management.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve a comprehensive Preventive Maintenance (PM) program to maximize equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
- Coordinate daily maintenance activities, ensuring timely completion of preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance tasks.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical issues affecting production equipment.
- Oversee the maintenance, repair, modification, and troubleshooting of metal stamping dies, tooling, fixtures, jigs, and automated assembly equipment.
- Manage toolroom operations, ensuring tooling is maintained, repaired, and available to support production schedules.
- Analyze equipment failures and implement root cause corrective actions to prevent recurring issues.
- Collaborate closely with Production, Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing teams to improve equipment performance and process efficiency.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, spare parts inventory, and PM documentation using a CMMS or equivalent maintenance system.
- Plan and prioritize maintenance schedules to minimize production interruptions.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and environmental standards.
- Manage maintenance-related projects, equipment installations, and process improvements.
- Monitor maintenance KPIs, including equipment uptime, MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures), MTTR (Mean Time to Repair), PM compliance, and maintenance costs.
- Recommend equipment upgrades, tooling improvements, and process enhancements that improve productivity and reduce maintenance expenses.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives utilizing Lean Manufacturing, TPM, and Six Sigma principles.
- Recruits, interviews, hires, and ensures training is completed for new employees and new roles in the facility.
- Oversee the daily workflow
- Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
- Handles discipline
- Work in accordance with all Company, Federal, and State regulations.
- Wear all required PPE as prescribed.
- Follow all Company Health and Safety policies and procedures.
- Conduct duties with attention to personal and coworker safety.
Qualifications:
- Associate degree in Industrial Maintenance, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related technical field; equivalent experience may be considered.
- 5+ years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
- 2+ years of supervisory or team leadership experience.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Strong leadership with the ability to motivate and develop maintenance personnel.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple maintenance activities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong experience with metal stamping dies, tooling, fixtures, presses, and automated manufacturing equipment.
- Extensive knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance practices.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
- Experience using CMMS software for maintenance planning and documentation.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, tooling drawings, and technical manuals.
- Working knowledge of OSHA safety standards and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field or 10 years of experience
- Experience with PLC troubleshooting (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar).
- Knowledge of robotics and automated assembly systems.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing, TPM, Six Sigma, or Kaizen methodologies.
- Welding, machining, or fabrication experience.
- Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) or equivalent certification.
Physical Requirements
- This position operates in a manufacturing environment with a high noise level due to production equipment. Hearing protection (ear plugs or earmuffs) and steel-toe safety shoes are required at all times in designated areas.
- The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach, twisting, and use hands to handle or feel materials and equipment.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
