Job Summary
This position is responsible for performing various maintenance duties throughout the City of Savannah. Performs skilled and semi-skilled maintenance tasks as assigned.
Essential Functions- Monitors and inspects refuse to ensure it is acceptable and contains no hazardous materials. Installs rock dams, silt fences, and drain pipes.
- Performs skilled, semi-skilled, and maintenance tasks in repairing sewer lines. Performs manual labor in the installation, maintenance, and repair of the stormwater system. Lays storm line pipes. Mixes cement. Participates in the maintenance of booster stations. Maintains clear well. Completes water taps. Tests, repairs, and replaces water meters.
- Performs minor repair to gate equipment. Pressure washes parking stalls, walk areas, driveways, and landings. Paints curbs, walk ways, landings, gate arms, walls, and doors. Inspects and replaces fire extinguishers. Issues citations for illegally parked vehicles. Assists customers with questions and concerns.
- Cleans and maintains restrooms. Sweeps and mops floors, empties trash, cleans and disinfects fixtures, and replaces paper products.
- Applies herbicide and insecticide as necessary. Collects and removes litter. Trims hedges, pulls weeds, mows lawns, plants shrubs and trees.
- Prepares facilities for special events. Cleans and maintains buildings.
- Performs general maintenance in cemeteries. Assists in surveying cemetery lots including uncovering buried survey markers.
- Installs and maintains traffic control devices and pavement markings. Refurbishes lot markers.
- Operates dump truck, chain saws, line trimmers, hedgers, edgers, and other various types of equipment.
- Responds to emergency situations during and after normal work hours. Serves as a member of the city's critical workforce for disaster response.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QualificationsHigh school graduate or GED plus six months work experience in general maintenance such as construction, landscaping, utilities, and so on, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Verification of education, certification and licenses will be required prior to employment. Valid driver’s license is required. Applicants will be disqualified if they have had a DUI or suspension due to a moving violation within the past three years.
Background investigation, including a supervised drug screen and post-offer/pre-employment medical screen also required.

Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM or 9:30 AM - 6:00 PM.
