Job SummaryCustodians keep all kinds of buildings neat, clean, free from clutter and safe. They pick up trash, sweep, mop, vacuum, use industrial cleaning equipment, clean floors and bathrooms, secure buildings, wash windows and perform minor maintenance. Work may also involve maintaining lawns, sidewalks, ornamental gardens, trash removal and parking lot cleaning.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain floors, mats and carpets within the community.
- Collect and dispose of trash and recycling from designated locations.
- Clean all public areas, including windows, and pressure‑wash entrances and sidewalks.
- Perform preventive maintenance on housekeeping machines such as vacuums, carpet shampooers and floor machines.
- Set up meeting rooms in the auditorium, arts and crafts room, lobby, roll‑away beds, etc.
- Keep all grounds, golf courses and tennis courts clean throughout the shift.
- Assist in resident annual deep cleaning and unit turnover as assigned.
- Protect community property and equipment, reporting any defects.
- Notify supervisors of damages, deficits or disturbances.
- Attend the daily shift kick‑off meeting and participate in daily stretches.
- Assist co‑workers as assigned.
- Handle reasonable complaints or requests professionally and patiently.
- Observe and notify supervisors of noticeable changes in residents’ health or demeanor.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Department Director.
Our ideal candidate will be reliable, follow safety procedures and duties assigned by a supervisor.
- Previous janitorial experience strongly preferred.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions in English, communicate effectively, and perform simple arithmetic.
- Previous floor maintenance experience strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of floor care procedures, techniques and supplies preferred.
- Willingness to perform routine, repetitive tasks.
- Ability to drive utility vehicles.
