Job Description

Responsible for performing cleaning tasks in accordance with established standards and procedures. Areas maintained include lounges, kitchens, stairs, elevators, restrooms, bathrooms, entrance areas, walkways, breezeways, windows railings, and similar exterior surfaces.

• Dusting, sweeping, and mopping floors
• Cleaning restrooms and bathrooms
• Replenishing supplies
• Laundry room duties
• Cleaning offices, public areas, vents, common spaces, upholstery, recreation rooms, storage areas
• Emptying sanitary receptacles
• Removing and disposing of interior landfill, recycling, and paper towel waste from containers
• Responding to unanticipated cleaning needs such as spills and graffiti
• Reporting maintenance, custodial, or general issues to supervisor or completing Gator Works requests
• Ensuring compliance with safety standards, OSHA, ADA, and other relevant regulations
• Operating commercial and residential laundry equipment to clean and fold cloths
• Assisting with heavy cleaning during peak periods such as stripping, applying floor finish, and removal of furniture
• Performing occasional room set‑up and breakdown, including moving furniture for events
• Performing exterior cleaning tasks: sweeping, shampooing carpet, pressure washing, window washing, and operating electrically/battery powered equipment such as blowers and burnishers
• Removing landfill and recycling waste from exterior walls and perimeter containers
• Assisting in maintaining inventory of cleaning materials, supplies, tools, and equipment in closets
• Performing other duties as assigned, including special cleaning tasks or projects

Custodial Worker I

Completion of ninth (9th) grade

$15.25 per hour

• Experience working in the custodial industry for a university/college residence hall, large apartment complex, or hotel
• Working knowledge of APPA (Association of Physical Plant Administrators) cleaning standards
• Working knowledge of industry standards and technology
• Demonstrated knowledge in the proper and safe handling of all janitorial chemicals
• Familiarity with University of Florida student culture and campus

• Demonstrated communication skills (verbal and written) and ability to communicate with various levels of staff
• Demonstrated attention to detail, professionalism, dependability, and timeliness
• Demonstrated customer service and interpersonal skills

• Ability to remain discreet and respect the privacy of residents, tenants, and guests
• Ability to function effectively in a fast‑paced environment with frequent interruptions
• Ability to handle multiple projects or tasks simultaneously
• Ability to understand, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
• Ability to work as part of a team in a multi‑faceted environment

• Prolonged periods standing and walking
• Ability to lift, push or pull up to 45 pounds at times
• Ability to climb upstairs
• Frequent reaching above shoulders
• Repeated bending, kneeling, pulling and pushing
• Operating mechanical and electrically powered cleaning equipment
• Other types of physical exertion for task completion
