Job DescriptionLeadership Functions – Receive assignments from Supervisor that may include working alone or with a small group and overseeing the work of others while working alongside them. Leads a team of custodial workers; directs, leads, and/or coordinates the work of others. Assists in continuous training and daily monitoring the work of custodial employees. Orders supplies and manages equipment inventory and budget.
Participates with the supervisor in discussions with employees pertaining to work performance and behavioral issues. Assists new employees with inputting time‑off requests as needed. In the absence of the Custodial Supervisor, the Lead Worker supervises the work group. Manages processes and phases in AiM and assigns work orders.
Work Functions – Cleans and maintains daily all halls, offices, shops, classrooms, conference rooms, labs, gym areas, locker rooms, restrooms, and elevators, including sweeping, dusting, dust‑mopping, wet‑mopping, spot‑mopping, operating floor care equipment such as scrubbers and burnishers, reconditioning of floors (shower scrub and topcoat) and spot washing and cleaning of walls, doors, and partitions, empty trash. Cleans and maintains all floors and floor coverings, including regular duties such as vacuuming, burnishing, and encapsulation of carpets.
Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures. Mix water and detergents in containers to prepare cleaning solutions according to specifications. Clean all entrances, steps, patios and concourses. Spot clean and clean all exterior and interior glass surfaces of all assigned buildings. Clean ceiling lights and vents. Empty and clean all waste cans, trash cans, recycle bins, water fountains, etc.
Properly maintain battery powered equipment, including checking battery water levels monthly.
Notify building managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems. Requires a Class E Drivers’ License. Must follow and adhere to all Building Services Standard Operating Procedures, and Facilities Services Policies and Directives. Criminal background check and physical examination required.
Normal Work Schedule5:00 PM to 1:30 AM (Monday through Friday). Workdays and shift times may vary in response to customer needs for special event coverage and/or departmental needs. Occasionally holiday and weekend work required. Total hours per week is 40. Management retains the right and discretion to modify schedules, building assignments, shifts and/or days for operational purposes. Position is considered as Essential Personnel as defined by UF Policy.
ExpectedSalary
$16.00 to $16.80 hourly.
Required QualificationsCompletion of ninth grade and two years of relevant experience.
Preferred- High school diploma and two (2) years of commercial custodial experience.
- Knowledge of commercial cleaning procedures and techniques.
- Experience with Aim, Kronos, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, People Soft).
- Experience managing large and multiple crews and operations.
- Experience positively managing and motivating a diverse workforce.
- Experience interfacing and providing customer service that aligns with Building Services’ values and vision.
- Experience working collaboratively and cooperatively in a team environment.
- Floor care training and experience (hard surfaces and carpets).
- Experience in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and painting.
