Street Maintenance Worker
This position is designated as safety-sensitive. As such, a pre-employment physical examination and drug screening are mandatory. The incumbent will also be subject to random drug and alcohol testing throughout the duration of employment. Performs manual and skilled labor associated with the maintenance and repair of City streets and right of ways;
Duties include- new and replacement concrete sidewalk and curb and gutter construction, asphalt paving and patching, leaf collection, mowing, litter control and emergency response for weather and other events.
Performs right of way maintenance by operating riding mowers, push mowers and weed eaters. Trims and cuts trees, cleans storm drains, edges sidewalks, collects trash and litter and performs other duties as required. Performs leaf collection duties including raking and operating a leaf vacuum machine. Performs unskilled or semi-skilled labor relating to concrete construction and asphalt patching and paving. May assist in the training of employees.
Employee is subject to recall and/or mandatory overtime for emergency situations. May be required to work overtime for non-emergency situations. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or G.E.D preferred Two years as a Street Maintenance Worker, or equivalent knowledge, skills or experience required. Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the minimum level of qualifications stated above. Licenses and
Certifications:
Must have or obtain a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of hire or promotion. Must have and maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record. (MVR) Due to the safety-sensitive nature of this position, incumbents will be subject to random drug testing. Knowledge of geography of the City, including major streets and landmarks. Knowledge of basic preventive maintenance procedures.
Knowledge of traffic rules and regulations and safe operation of equipment. Ability to learn proper operation of various types of small to medium equipment such as flat-bed or dump trucks, mowing machines, hand and power tools, chippers, and leaf vacuum machines. Ability to take and follow directions from supervisor. Ability to perform strenuous and routine work. Ability to lift objects of up to fifty (50) pounds.
The incumbent can qualify for automatic promotion to Equipment Operator II if the following conditions are met:
After two years as Equipment Operator I Ability to meet Equipment Operator II job specifications Superintendents recommendation. A 5% incentive increase shall be given to employee who obtains a CDL Class A license. This safety-sensitive position is governed by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) drug and alcohol testing regulations. Employees in this position are required to register into the FMCSA Clearinghouse and are subject to queries to determine whether drug or alcohol violation information exists in the Clearinghouse.
