Salary Range: $26.24 To $33.09 Hourly
JOB SUMMARYPlans, develops, implements, and manages a maintenance operation plan for assigned projects and parks. Supervises inmates and/or maintenance staff to ensure routine maintenance, issues, and projects are being addressed and completed in a favorable manner and in compliance with health, safety and other applicable standards. Operates one or more pieces of heavy equipment at a skilled level, assists in assigning, checking and approving work of laborers and other equipment operators.
Supports Parks Maintenance Superintendent’s in the daily activities in their absence.
- Organizes, schedules, manages, and supervises maintenance operations for assigned projects and parks.
- Reports and documents complex maintenance needs, safety issues, and incidents.
- Assists with the planning and development of specified projects.
- Prepares and assigns work orders.
- Estimates costs for repairs and obtains quotes for requisitions.
- Schedules, performs, manages, and supervises maintenance at assigned parks and leisure facilities, campgrounds, athletic fields and courts, pavilions, parks, and other areas.
- Supervises, trains, and evaluates the work and behavior of assigned maintenance staff and/or detail inmates.
- Assists in developing and administering a budget as related to vehicles, equipment, grounds, buildings, and projects.
- Assists in developing a system for storing tools and supplies/materials to aid inventory.
- Performs general maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work.
- Maintains grounds, playing fields, and recreational areas by mowing grass, trimming trees and hedges, and planting and maintaining grass, trees, and shrubs.
- Assists in the construction and development of park grounds and facilities by hauling dirt, clearing trees and brush, building bridges, fences, playgrounds and other equipment.
- Is responsible for operating and maintaining a variety of heavy and light equipment used in the construction, maintenance, and repair of parks, recreational facilities, and other public grounds.
- Performs routine inspections and maintenance on equipment to ensure proper functioning.
- Transport materials and equipment to job sites as needed.
- Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work site.
- Report safety hazards and equipment failures to supervisor promptly.
- Regular and predictable attendance is required.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED.
- One year related experience.
- Experience operating heavy equipment in construction and landscaping.
- Knowledge of municipal processes.
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the minimum level of qualifications stated herein.
- Valid Commercial Driver's License Class A and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) or obtain within one year.
- Must have and maintain POST Certification in order to supervise inmates from the Hall County Correctional Institution on off-site work details.
- Certified Playground Safety Inspector (preferred)
- Pesticide applicator’s license (preferred)
Due to the safety-sensitive nature of this position, incumbents will be subject to random drug testing.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Knowledge of traffic rules and safety precautions.
- Skill in the operation of light, medium, and occasionally heavy sized construction equipment.
- Computer operating skills
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to perform skilled repairs, maintenance tasks, and construction associated with electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and grounds maintenance and upkeep.
