Job Summary

The Housekeeping Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, and coordinating the overall operations of the custodial operations, in accordance with County guidelines, and assuring a high degree of care and cleanliness. The Housekeeping Manager is responsible for staffing, scheduling, training, and supervising a large team of custodial staff.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

Manage the daily activities of the custodial staff to include appropriate cleaning of all assigned offices, buildings, and facilities, and public spaces.

Planning, organizing, and directing custodial staff to ensure the highest degree of satisfaction by other County staff members.

Management and supervision of custodial staff, including day to day duties, and special events crews.

Coordinates and works with specialty custodial contractors such as carpet cleaners, floor technicians, and Antimicrobial Treatment providers as necessary.

Purchase, order, and maintain custodial supplies and inventory.

Recruit, select, and train all new custodial staff members.

Maintain the custodial budget.

Uphold the highest standards of cleanliness, safety, and conduct.

Manages and maintains custodial staff work schedules, proper notification of upcoming special events, and ensure proper preparation and staffing for any special event.

Performs other relevant work as assigned.

Regular and predictable attendance is required.

Ensures the proper maintenance of all custodial equipment; making arrangements for repair or replacement of damaged equipment.

Minimum Qualifications Required

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or GED required.

Four (4) years’ experience in all aspects of custodial/housekeeping duties in a large, multi-use facility.

Two (2) years supervisory experience.

Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the minimum level of qualifications.

Licenses and

Certifications:

Valid Class I Driver’s License and satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of OSHA and safety standards within a custodial environment.

Ability to manage and motivate a team.

Ability to anticipate customer need, change direction quickly; ability to multi task.

Advanced knowledge of housekeeping process and procedures.

Working experience in supervising a large (15+) team of staff members.

Ability to maintain a budget.

Capable of using independent judgement and decision making skills.

Ability to interact effectively with all levels of management and staff, and a variety of personalities both inside and outside the organization.

Proficient with general computer applications and Microsoft Office.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Ability to multi-task.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Physical Ability:
Essential functions frequently require the ability to remain in a stationary position (sitting/standing); move oneself about the job site by walking; maintain body equilibrium to prevent failing when walking, standing, crouching or navigating narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces; and move/transport items weighing up to 25lbs. Incumbents frequently must be able to think analytically; handle stress and emotions; concentrate on tasks;

remember names and other details; make decisions; adjust to change; examine/observe details; and discriminate colors. Essential functions frequently require incumbents to direct others; maintain stamina during the work day; operate equipment; stay organized; and use math/calculations.
