REPORTS TO:

ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT DEPARTMENT (S): ROAD MAINTENANCE

Operates small-medium equipment at a skilled level including a sign truck, post driver, post puller, etc. used in the installation of traffic control devices. Required to supervise and train outside inmate details) and perform manual labor in the maintenance and/or repair of county-maintained traffic control devices. Operates a tablet/computer for the function of asset management, inventory control, and fabrication/design of traffic control devices.

Assist Crew Chief in the daily functions as assigned. Supports supervisor in the daily activities in their absence.

Operates and performs semi-skilled labor in the daily maintenance of installing, repairing, cleaning, and fabricating traffic control devices.

Operates a computer/tablet for fabrication and design of signs, inputting assets and request/task within an asset management platform, and email communication.

Operates a sign truck to transport materials for the installation/repair of traffic control devices.

Performs basic maintenance on the sign truck and traffic control devices.

Maintains Inventory:
Organizes stock, request supplies, and keeps watch on low stock items.

May perform road closures as assigned.

May assist in School Flasher Maintenance, Traffic Surveys, Guardrail/Marking Inspections, Detour/traffic rerouting, and Message Board placement, maintenance, and programming

Hall County Sign Technicians III / Correctional Officers will be required to oversee an outside work detail of inmates from the Correctional Institution, always assuring their safety and security.

Regular and predictable attendance is required.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

High School Diploma or G.E.D.

Two years combined Equipment Operator I or II experience required.

A thorough understanding of the Manual on Uniform traffic Control Devices (https://mutcd.fhwa.dot.gov/) to ensure signs meet national, federal, and state visibility and placement regulations.

Require or ability to obtain American Traffic Safety Services Associations (ATSSA) () flagger or traffic control technician certifications.

Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the minimum level of qualifications stated above.

Valid Class C Driver's License (CDL A or B preferred) and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).

POST Certification required.

Due to the safety-sensitive nature of this position, incumbents will be subject to random drug testing.

Knowledge of geography of the County, including major roads and landmarks.

Knowledge of preventive maintenance procedures.

Knowledge of traffic rules and regulations and safe operation of vehicles and equipment.

Basic to intermediate knowledge of, and skill in, operating various types of small-medium sized equipment.

Ability to take and follow directions from supervisor.

Ability to effectively use computer/tablet for work tasks/assignments, asset management, and email communications.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, associates, supervisors, and the public.

Ability to perform strenuous and routine work.

Ability to lift objects of up to 100 pounds.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
