Job Summary

Under general supervision, performs building cleaning, facilities and grounds maintenance work in schools and administrative buildings. This is the entry‑level position in the building service staff. Employees receive on‑the‑job training and use cleaning and grounds tools and equipment to clean interior buildings and maintain grounds. The nature of work is repetitive, requires sustained physical effort, and may involve heavy lifting (minimum 50 lbs) and exposure to accidental hazards and disagreeable elements.

Employees are considered emergency personnel and must report to buildings during inclement weather.

Sufficient physical strength and freedom from disabling defects to lift and move heavy objects and perform manual labor.

Employees may be required to report to other locations to assist staff in emergency situations, work overtime or night shifts, provide a current working telephone number, and wear provided uniforms.

• Some knowledge of building and grounds work methods, materials, and practices.
• Ability to operate and maintain custodial and grounds care equipment.
• Ability to use approved cleaning supplies and chemicals.
• Ability to monitor building spaces and grounds for safety and security.
• Basic knowledge of emergency facility response procedures.
• Ability to comprehend and follow instructions.
• Ability to communicate with customers.
• Knowledge of and ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).

• Completion of ninth grade required.
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Experience in general cleaning of buildings and grounds.
• Other combinations of education, training, and experience that provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
