Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Position Summary
Level Three mechanics work under minimal supervision to perform turret/spindle alignments, PM tasks such as troubleshooting lubrication systems, hydraulics, bar feeders, controls, and other issues. They diagnose and repair most NC mechanical issues, pull and replace ball screws, handle hydraulic and pneumatic issues, and complete tasks related to facility maintenance including plumbing and general carpentry. The role requires the ability to read mechanical drawings and electrical schematics, serving as a mechanical or technical SME.
Typically, 6‑10 years of experience is required.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Work safely under functional safety guidelines such as PPE and equipment interaction.
- Diagnose and repair most CNC mechanical issues such as turret and spindle alignments, pull and replace ball screws, hydraulic & pneumatic issues.
- Read and understand electrical drawings, ladder logic/relay logic, and use them in troubleshooting.
- Perform preventive maintenance according to schedule.
- Identify electrical components such as relays, micro switches, and proximity sensors.
- Read and troubleshoot electronic drawings for CNC lathes, mills, induction heaters, and laser markers.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose any NC control or servo drive issues.
- Interface with manufacturers' online technical support when needed.
- Verify machine functionality after repair, maintenance, and installation.
- Assist Maintenance Level 4 with spindle stator rebuild, axis linear guides, and ball screws.
- Perform carpentry work on permanent structures, office partitions, panels, floors, and office areas.
- Handle facility operations, roof, electrical, waste area, AC/heater issues.
- Plan and sequence work operations to rebuild and test all types of precision‑built power machine tools.
- Plan, layout, and fabricate replacement parts for major rebuilding of precision‑built machine tools, ensuring operation of basic machine tools to exacting tolerances.
- Fit and scrape bearings, align spindles, columns, knees, tail stocks, ways, and tables individually and in relation to each other.
- Perform good housekeeping practices.
- Perform other duties as required by supervisor or manager.
- Ability to read and write English.
- Competent in shop math, fractions, and decimals.
- Proficient with hand tools, nuts, and bolts.
- Knowledge of part holding methods and procedures.
- Knowledge of NC equipment and controls.
- Ability to interact with computers and CNC controls at a high level.
- Ability to troubleshoot hydraulic and pneumatic systems at a high level.
- Ability to read electrical and machine drawings and diagrams at a high level.
- Ability to perform complex preventive maintenance for all NC lathes, following equipment checklists and running a PM report with ball‑bar diagrams.
- Ability to lead and instruct low‑level maintenance personnel.
- High-level experience with mechanical processes and methods such as hand tools and light equipment including saws, drills, and pneumatic tools.
- 6‑10 years of experience.
- GED or high school diploma preferred but not required.
- CNC maintenance training and certification.

For informational purposes only, the pay range for this role is $36.00 to $42.00 USD per hour based on a variety of factors. Employees may receive 96 hours paid time off per year, 10 paid holidays, and eligibility to participate in the company's medical, dental, vision, basic life insurance, 401(k) plan, quarterly cash bonus plan, and long‑term incentive program.
