LHH is seeking an experienced, safety-focused Maintenance Manager to oversee the maintenance, reliability, and performance of a fleet of heavy mobile equipment supporting steel mill scrap operations. This is a hands‑on leadership role responsible for maximizing equipment uptime, leading a skilled maintenance team, and ensuring all work is completed safely and efficiently. The anticipated salary for the role is between $100,000-$110,000 a year.
Responsibilities- Lead all maintenance operations for a heavy mobile equipment fleet.
- Develop, implement, and manage preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and operational equipment issues.
- Coordinate repairs, rebuilds, and outside vendor service to minimize downtime.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, service histories, and equipment documentation.
- Supervise, mentor, and support a team of maintenance technicians and mechanics in a union environment.
- Schedule daily and weekly maintenance activities while prioritizing critical repairs.
- Foster employee development through ongoing training, coaching, and safety education.
- Partner with operations leadership to align maintenance priorities with production goals.
- Respond quickly to equipment breakdowns and emergency repair situations.
- Evaluate equipment performance and recommend repairs, upgrades, or replacements.
- Manage parts inventory, purchasing, and vendor relationships.
- Monitor maintenance performance metrics, including downtime, preventive maintenance compliance, and maintenance costs.
- Promote and enforce a strong safety culture by ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations, lockout/tagout procedures, PPE requirements, and all company safety policies.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe maintenance shop and work environment.
- Technical or trade certification or Associate's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of maintenance experience working with heavy mobile equipment.
- At least 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience, preferably in a union environment.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and heavy equipment repair.
- Experience in steel mills, scrap recycling, construction, quarry, or other industrial operations is preferred.
- Ability to interpret equipment manuals, schematics, and diagnostic information.
- Excellent troubleshooting, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
- Experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) is required.
- Reliable attendance with flexibility to respond to after‑hours or emergency maintenance needs.
