Custodial Worker

Under the supervision of the Building and Grounds Director, performs a variety of general custodial duties in the care and cleaning of County owned and operated buildings and facilities. To perform related work as required.

• High school diploma or equivalent and one year of progressively more responsible experience in facilities cleaning.
• The county, at its discretion, may consider an alternative combination of formal education and work experience.
• Possession of a valid Michigan Vehicle Operator's License.
• Working knowledge of the equipment, methods, procedures, and tasks involved in custodial work.
• Knowledge of the practices and safety issues involved in cleaning public facilities.
• Able to read and follow instructions.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to establish effective working relationships and use good judgment, initiative and resourcefulness when dealing with other county employees, contractors to the county, representatives of other governmental units, professional contacts, elected officials, and the public.
• Skill in the use of office equipment and technology and the ability to learn new software programs applicable to the position.
• Must wear and maintain duty uniform

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, sit, walk, climb, use hands and fingers, talk, hear, and view and create written documents.

The employee uses hand strength to grasp tools and may climb ladders or travel over uneven terrain. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, and operate motorized equipment and vehicles. The employee must lift or push/pull objects of up to 50 lbs. without assistance. Accommodation will be made, as needed, for employees required to lift or move objects that exceed this weight.
