Temporary Agricultural Worker
Location:
Geneva, New York. Unit:
Field Research Unit, Cornell Agri Tech, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS). Job Type: Temporary (5‑month), 20 hours/week, nonexempt.
- Perform daily maintenance on large machinery: checking fluids, greasing, inspecting belts and tires.
- Maintain farm service roads, ditch banks, and pond edges to prevent erosion.
- Safely operate equipment, including tractors, rotary mowers, flail mowers, and bush hogs on uneven ground and obstacles.
- Maintain clean equipment and work environment.
- Maintain vegetation to ensure fields are accessible to researchers and staff.
- Use pressure washers, edgers, spreaders, and gardening hand tools.
- Travel between farms on county roads using a tractor with an implement attached.
- High School Diploma and at least 1 year of farm agricultural experience, or equivalent education and experience.
- Ability to work in difficult-to-access field locations and navigate uneven terrain.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Strong organizational and communication skills (written and oral).
- Exceptional attention to detail and observational skills.
- Ability to work independently with sufficient direction.
- Flexibility to work alone or in a team and solve problems as needed.
- Capacity to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Safety‑oriented, knowledgeable of safety regulations and able to train others.
- Ability to cultivate inclusive relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
- Reliable transportation, valid unrestricted New York State driver’s license, and cleared to drive for university business.
Hourly rate: $20.00. Temporary position for five months.
