The Shift Engineer plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth, safe, and efficient operation of our hospital facilities and grounds. This position is responsible for day to day maintenance, minor repairs, and preventative maintenance across the hospital campus, helping to maintain a safe, compliant, and fully functional environment of care.

We are seeking a versatile, hands‑on professional who can work independently and handle a wide range of maintenance tasks. By maintaining accurate records and reporting on equipment status, the Shift Engineer helps ensure long‑term facility reliability and supports operational excellence throughout the hospital.

Responsibilities

Perform light electrical work, plumbing repairs, HVAC maintenance, sheetrock and carpentry repairs, painting, and surface repairs.
Carry out routine and emergency maintenance tasks, including mechanical repairs, electrical troubleshooting, and system calibrations.
Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and hospital teams to prioritize and complete repair work efficiently.
Maintain accurate logs of maintenance activities, equipment performance, and incident reports.
Ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulatory standards during all maintenance activities.
Assist in the implementation of preventive maintenance schedules to reduce equipment failures.
Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns to minimize downtime and restore normal operations.

Skills

Apply mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills daily to quickly diagnose and resolve maintenance issues.
Demonstrate effective communication to coordinate with teams and document work clearly.
Use time management and prioritization skills to handle urgent repairs and routine maintenance within shift schedules.
Maintain a strong understanding of safety protocols and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum of 3 years of experience in general maintenance, preferably in a healthcare environment.
Working knowledge of electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and general building maintenance.
Ability to read and interpret basic drawings, manuals and work orders.
Familiarity with safety regulations and maintenance best practices.
Strong trouble shooting and problem solving skills.
Effective communication and customer service skills when interacting with staff, patients and visitors.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in a hospital or healthcare facility.
Trade certifications or vocational training in HVAC, Electrical or plumbing.
Familiarity with healthcare regulatory requirements and life safety standards.
