Truck Shop Mechanic

Supervisor: BEN CHASTAIN. Pay: depends on experience.

Class A CDL required.

• Maintain diesel and gasoline‑powered equipment and trucks of all makes and models: complete inspections and preventive maintenance, correct vehicle deficiencies, make adjustments and alignments, keep records.
• Conduct inspections and diagnostic tests to determine vehicle condition.
• Keep equipment available by completing preventive maintenance schedules, installing upgrades, controlling corrosion, and completing winterization procedures.
• Repair, adjust, overhaul, assemble, disassemble, and replace major assemblies, subs‑assemblies, components, parts, or systems (power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics). Perform machine‑shop operations and make adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear‑tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units.
• Verify vehicle performance by conducting test drives and adjusting controls and systems.
• Comply with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.
• Maintain vehicle appearance by cleaning, washing, and painting.
• Maintain vehicle records by annotating services and repairs.
• Keep shop equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs.
• Contain costs by using warranty and evaluating service and parts options.
• Keep supplies ready by inventorying stock, placing orders, and verifying receipt.
• Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading technical and regulation publications.
• Enhance maintenance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for new and different requests and exploring opportunities to add value.
• Perform any other duties as assigned.

Hot/Cold Weather or Wet/Icy Weather (driving in all weather conditions). Dust, dirt, grime, and working with live animals. Working along roadside or at the farm, or processing plant dock environment or other uncontrolled environments.

• Good electrical and electrical troubleshooting abilities.

• High School diploma or GED desired.
• 21 years of age.
• Must be able to read and write English.
• Must have basic computer skills.
• Must be able to think and react quickly.
• 1 year recent verifiable commercial driving experience operating equipment similar to that which would be operated at Pilgrim’s is required.
• No DUI/DWI convictions in the past 5 years.
• No more than 3 moving violations nor any major preventable accidents in the last 3 years.
• No preventable accidents in the last 12 months.
• Must be able to physically perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
• Must be able to work 7 days a week (usually 5 days a week).

Standing, lifting, turning, twisting, stretching, hand‑eye coordination, pushing, pulling, walking, squatting, grasping, kneeling, and sitting for extended periods of time.

If not possessed and if candidate signs a 2‑year contract, candidate may be eligible for Pilgrim’s‑sponsored CDL school (dependent on management’s discretion).
