Job Overview

Position DetailsThis is a 20‑hour per week, part‑time role that requires weekend hours. The position may also require work on holidays and/or during staff shortages during the week. Summer and periodic flexibility are essential.
The Custodian I reports to the Parks Field Supervisor.
Primary Responsibilities- Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and preparation of equipment, park spaces, athletic fields, courts, and other items related to the assigned area, including trash and debris removal, graffiti removal, and litter pick up.
- Operate equipment, machinery, and tools in the maintenance and support of assigned areas, including preparations for athletic fields and specialized equipment for games and practices.
- Set up, monitor, and inspect assigned areas, facilities, or equipment; identify problems and necessary repairs; initiate actions and perform basic repair and maintenance on park structures, irrigation systems, athletic fields, landscaping, and open spaces.
- Monitor inventory levels of equipment, supplies, and materials; determine supplies needed; stock or distribute supply items.
- High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).
- Six months of previous experience and/or training in custodial work.
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the necessary knowledge and abilities to perform the work.
- Valid Arizona Driver’s License.
This position is an At‑Will position and is FLSA Non‑Exempt, eligible for overtime compensation.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances.
- Knowledge of National Fire Protection Association standards.
- General maintenance techniques, safe equipment practices, and general cleaning practices.
- Basic computer skills and ability to use phone applications.
- Cleaning and maintenance of facilities.
- Operation and safe transportation of equipment such as deck mowers, utility vehicles, tractors, and attachments.
- Operation of power tools such as chainsaw, stump grinder, auger, jackhammer, hedge trimmer, etc.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Customer service skills.
This position has been designated as a Heavy work position. Heavy work requires lifting, pushing, pulling, and operating machinery to a level that may require work up to 150 lbs.
