- Support HUSD Vision, Mission and Goals.
- Perform a variety of daily routine custodial and maintenance tasks at assigned work site.
- Conduct daily inspection of campus, open buildings, doors and gates to prepare for the school day, secure them, and check for and correct any obvious safety hazards.
- Set up cafeteria for student lunch periods and clean after lunch.
- Set up/break down areas used for meetings and ensure tables and chairs are organized according to the provided layout.
- Move furniture, books, boxes, and equipment.
- Perform a wide range of tasks to maintain the school plant (routine painting, plumbing, electrical wiring, heating/cooling, other maintenance activities).
- Perform minor maintenance on campus such as changing air‑conditioner/heating filters, light bulbs, and repairing furniture or equipment; report vandalism or other facility damage to the Facility Supervisor and generate work orders for major repairs/maintenance as needed.
- Report all safety or security risks or exposures such as broken windows, doors, electrical, plumbing or mechanical fixtures, furniture, open trenches, etc., to the Facility Supervisor.
- Maintain accurate inventory records of equipment and supplies needed to properly maintain facilities and assist with budget requirements.
- Respond to emergency situations.
- Assist the Principal with security by securing facilities and grounds to minimize property damage and to ensure a safe work environment.
- Assist the Principal and staff with energy conservation.
- Submit requests for equipment and supplies as needed.
- Provide input to the Facility Supervisor and Grounds Foreman Supervisor regarding summer maintenance of the school.
- During summer break, the employee may be reassigned to the General Maintenance Department as needed.
- Attend training, as required by the District.
- Due to the potential for access to confidential information, it is absolutely mandatory that this position safeguard and maintain the confidentiality of the information stored and discussed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Two years of maintenance and custodial experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of all types of commercial cleaning and sanitizing products and their appropriate use.
- Proficiency in the use of commercial cleaning equipment.
- Working knowledge of general maintenance tools and equipment.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
- Effective communicator who works cooperatively with others.
- Must have the ability to obtain Certification in First Aid and CPR.
- Ability to pass background and reference checking as stipulated by District standards.
- Valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- A valid driver’s license and/or a CDL, if driving is required as part of the position. The District shall review the driving record periodically with the Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles.
- Frequent communication with parents, students, and staff including the exchange of accurate information.
- Moving about on foot with minimal rest.
- Occasionally remain in a seated position or on one’s feet in an upright position at a location without moving about.
- Raising or lowering objects from one level to another weighing 25–75 lbs.
- Exerting force upon an object so that the object moves away from the force or toward the force.
- Frequently required to position the body to perform maintenance duties by bending the body downward and forward at the waist, often requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.
- Occasionally ascending or descending ladders and stairs using feet, legs, hands, and arms.
- Extending hands and arms in any direction.
- Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow slippery surfaces.
