The Mine Hoist Specialist plays a vital role within the team, acting as a key liaison between the engineering design office and on-site construction teams. Specializing in the installation of mine hoists and equipment for shaft sinking, the specialist is responsible for ensuring the smooth integration and application of the company's proprietary systems. Responsibilities encompass oversight of installations, conducting maintenance, and troubleshooting, all while prioritizing design integrity, safety, and regulatory compliance.
In addition to these hands‑on tasks, the specialist also contributes strategically to project design, estimates, and procurement, fostering a culture of operational excellence.
- Provide technical support in shaft sinking, including installation of hoists, facilities, and systems.
- Adhere to corporate standards and industry guidelines in all installation and maintenance activities.
- Develop and implement QA programs tailored to shaft‑sinking projects, conduct plant audits, and ensure compliance with IP protection.
- Perform work‑measurement activities such as rope testing and analyze operational data to support estimates, schedules, specifications, and reports.
- Develop installation and commissioning procedures, oversee executions, and protect company IP.
- Contribute to the design, development, and testing of electrical and electronic components and drive systems for shaft‑sinking applications.
- Enforce corporate standards during inspections and maintenance to maintain quality and proprietary guidelines.
- Operate company vehicles if required; must possess a current State Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record.
- Maintain safe work areas, perform field risk assessments, and comply with daily, weekly, and monthly safety directives.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding Redpath and client information, and uphold policies, SOPs, and directives.
- Work in excess of 40 hours per week, including overtime, day and night shifts, weekends, holidays, and shift rotations.
- Comply with Redpath core competencies; duties may evolve and additional tasks may be assigned.
- Assist other job functions as required.
- High School or equivalent.
- 10+ years’ experience in the installation and commissioning of hoisting plants.
- Superior knowledge of hoisting plant processes.
- Familiarity with Redpath Safety Program and corporate guidelines.
- Working knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, HVAC, and hoist safety circuits.
- Ability to work with and promote health and safety in the workplace environment.
- Proficiency in proper use and safe handling of tools, equipment, and materials.
- Knowledge of the mining industry underground environment.
- Ability to read and understand engineering prints (civil work, structural work, rock excavation work).
- Knowledge and understanding of mine regulations pertaining to construction in mining.
- Ability to pass background clearance check, drug screening, and physical examination.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to prepare written reports and correspondence.
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision.
- High level of attention to detail, neatness, and accuracy.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
