Higley Unified School District – Maintenance Technician
Location:
Gilbert, Arizona

Job Description- Support HUSD Vision, Mission and Goals
- Perform a variety of daily routine custodial and maintenance tasks at assigned work sites
- Conduct daily inspection of campus: open buildings, doors, and gates to prepare for the school day; secure buildings, doors, and gates; check for, and correct, any obvious safety hazards
- Set up cafeteria for student lunch periods and clean cafeteria afterward
- Set up/break down areas used for meetings and ensure tables and chairs are organized according to the provided layout
- Move furniture, books, boxes, and equipment
- Perform a wide range of tasks to maintain the school plant, including routine painting, plumbing, electrical wiring, heating/cooling, and other maintenance activities
- Perform minor maintenance on campus—such as changing air conditioning/heating filters, light bulbs, and repairing furniture or equipment to ensure proper working condition; report vandalism or other facility damage to the Facility Supervisor; generate work orders for major repairs or maintenance as needed
- Report all safety or security risks or exposures such as broken windows, doors, electrical, plumbing or mechanical fixtures, furniture, open trenches to the Facility Supervisor
- Maintain accurate inventory records of equipment and supplies needed to properly maintain facilities and assist with budget requirements
- Respond to emergency situations
- Assist the Principal with security by securing facilities and grounds to minimize property damage and ensure a safe work environment
- Assist the Principal and staff with energy conservation
- Submit requests for equipment and supplies as needed
- Provide input to the Facility Supervisor and Grounds Supervisor regarding summer maintenance of the school
- During summer break, employee may be reassigned to the General Maintenance Department as needed
- Attend training, as required by the District
- Safeguard and maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent
- Two years of maintenance and custodial experience preferred
- Working knowledge of all types of commercial cleaning and sanitizing products and their appropriate use
- Proficiency in the use of commercial cleaning equipment
- Working knowledge of general maintenance tools and equipment
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor
- Effective communicator who works cooperatively with others
- Must have the ability to obtain a certification in First Aid and CPR
- Ability to pass background and reference checks as stipulated by District standards
- Valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
- Valid driver’s license and/or a CDL if driving is required;
District may review driving record periodically
- Frequent communication with parents, students, and staff, including the exchange of accurate information
- Occasionally remain seated or on feet, upright, without moving about
- Raise or lower objects from one level to another, from 25 to 75 lbs
- Exert force upon an object so that the object moves away from the force or towards the force
- Frequently position body to perform maintenance duties by bending backward and forward at the waist, requiring full use of lower extremities and back muscles
- Occasionally ascend or descend ladders and stairs using feet and legs or hands and arms
- Extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction
- Maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow slippery surfaces
- Seize, hold, grasp, turn, or otherwise work with hand(s)
- Clarity of vision at ranges up to 20 feet, including observing an area that can be seen up and down or to the right or left while eyes are fixed on a point
- Ability to judge distances and spatial relationships to see objects where and as they are
- Exposure to environmental conditions including weather, moving mechanical parts, electric shock, vibration, extreme heat, noise, and toxic chemicals
Full‑time position – 12 months, Monday‑Friday, 8 hours a day.
Salary ClassificationAppropriate salary placement on the Classified Hourly Salary Schedule.
EvaluationPerformance of this job will be evaluated by the Site Administrator and according to District policy.
Paid Holiday21 days.
Work EnvironmentThe noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
