Instrument & Controls (I&C) Specialist duties are:
Support the safe, efficient, and cost‑effective production of electric energy through various power plant instrumentation tasks. The scope of these maintenance functions will vary among facilities and may not be listed in the bullets below. Additionally, I&C duties may include varying levels of other maintenance and operations tasks dictated by the facility requirements.

*** This is a shift‑based role located at our San Tan Generating Station (Gilbert, AZ). **

• Assessment, calibration, repair, and installation of power plant control devices.
• Troubleshoot systems controls and malfunctions in various devices, analog and digital, including Distributed Control & Programmable Logic Controller systems.
• Utilize available documentation, drawings and schematics to identify and troubleshoot problems.
• Obtain/order the necessary materials to support the maintenance of plant instruments and controls.
• Perform preventative maintenance and provide feedback on follow‑up work and maintenance program improvement.
• Prepare and layout jobs utilizing vendor data, drawings and other available information.
• Competent and responsible use of hand and power tools.
• Safely handle and dispose of hazardous materials and waste according to laws and regulations.
• Provide training for other facility personnel in identified maintenance tasks.
• Efficiently use computer technology to operate work management systems, access work orders, input historical data, report time and order parts.
• Efficiently use computer technology to maintain, troubleshoot and update devices, controllers and equipment.
• Perform in a leadership capacity, including assigning, supervising, and taking responsibility for the work of other classifications.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Work safely and efficiently, maintain effective working relationships, and accurately complete applicable paperwork. Overtime may be required.

The typical duties illustrate the levels of difficulty of the job. Shift work, non‑continuous multi‑shift, and overtime may be required. Specific respirator certification levels will be determined by job assignment. Training for this position will be listed in the Job Classification curriculum. This training includes the job courses identified for each facility.

For this position it is a 12‑hour shift rotation from days to nights. Initially spend a few months on days before moving to night shift: 5 am‑5 pm or 5 pm‑5 am. 4‑days on, 7‑days off, 4‑nights on, 3‑days off, 3‑days on, 1‑day off, then 3‑nights on.

A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent is required.

Appropriate respirator medical certification, fit test, and training required.

SRP offers a hybrid workplace that allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. All employees must live and work in Arizona.
