Purpose StatementThe job of Custodian is to maintain an attractive, sanitary and safe facility for students, staff and public; provide equipment and furniture arrangements for meetings, classroom activities, and events; and minimize property damage, loss, and liability exposure.
Essential Functions- Arrange furnishings and equipment for adequate preparations for meetings, classroom activities and special events.
- Clean assigned school or district facilities (classrooms, offices, restrooms, multipurpose rooms, corridors, carpets, etc.) to maintain a sanitary, safe, and attractive environment.
- Distribute supplies and equipment (soap dispensers, towel/toilet paper dispensers, packages, furniture, TV/VCR carts, etc.) to appropriate parties.
- Inspect facility and equipment (HVAC units, boilers, etc.) to ensure safe operations, clean condition, and identify/report necessary repairs due to vandalism, equipment breakage, weather conditions, etc.
- Maintain coal fired boiler as assigned to ensure proper working condition.
- Maintain supplies and equipment (cleaning solutions, paper products, vacuum, mops, etc.) to ensure availability to stock facilities.
- Prepare facility for daily operations (open gates, raise flags, unlock doors, snow removal, etc.) to keep facilities operational and safe.
- Provide training and direction to community service workers and school service students.
- Respond to immediate safety and/or operational concerns (facility damage, unauthorized persons, alarms, etc.) to resolve safety issues and maintain functioning environment.
- Secure facilities and grounds (lock doors, turn off lights, set alarm, etc.) to minimize property damage, equipment loss and potential liability.
- Assist in snow removal as assigned to maintain a safe environment.
- Assist other personnel as required to ensure an efficient and effective work environment.
– Minimum Qualifications
- Skills: Operate equipment used in industrial maintenance and common tools; adhere to safety practices.
- Knowledge: Basic math (fractions, percents, ratios), understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; knowledge of industrial cleaning methods, safety practices, basic tools for minor repairs, confined space entry, and coal fired boiler maintenance.
- Abilities: Schedule activities, collate data, use job-related equipment; adapt to changing work priorities; participate in crisis management team; work weekends and holidays; communicate with diverse groups; work as part of a team; problem solving with data and equipment.
Work under direct supervision using standardized procedures; provide information and/or advising others; operate within a defined budget; utilize resources from other work units; and have continual opportunity to impact organization’s services.
Physical DemandsSignificant lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling; significant fine finger dexterity. Mostly walking (70%) and standing (25%), with some sitting (5%).
ExperienceJob related experience is desired.
EducationHigh School diploma or equivalent.
Required TestingPulmonary Function Test.
Certificates & LicensesCPR/First Aid Certificate (training provided).
ClearancesCriminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
Position TypeFull-Time
Salary$19.59 to $21.41 per hour.
