Position: Water Services System Technician - Stormwater - $2,000 Hiring Bonus

The Role

The Water Services System Technician – Stormwater performs skilled and semi‑skilled construction, maintenance, and repair work on the City of Glendale's stormwater network.

Duties include operating various light, medium, and heavy equipment; investigating sewer odors and stoppages; hydro‑cleaning sewer and storm lines to remove obstacles; performing scheduled maintenance; and responding to emergencies.

Position will be open until filled and applicants will be reviewed as they are received.

Salary
  • FLSA non‑exempt; overtime for any hours worked over forty in a week.
  • Grade 312; hourly salary between $22.6404 and $33.9606.
Hiring Bonus
  • $1,000 after thirty days of employment.
  • $1,000 after six months of employment.

Bonus must be paid when the employee is active. Current City of Glendale employees are not eligible for the hiring bonus.

Holiday, Vacation, and Sick Leave
  • 10.5 paid holidays per year; full‑time employees also receive an additional twelve hours of holiday special leave per calendar year for cultural or religious holidays.
  • Vacation accrues at five point thirty‑three hours per pay period (approximately 138 hours per year). After five years it increases to six point twelve hours per pay period; after ten years it caps at seven point six hours per pay period.
  • Sick leave accrues at four point four hours per pay period (approximately 114 hours per year).
Retirement
  • Participation in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS).
  • Mandatory contribution of twelve percent deducted every pay period.

Responsibilities
  • Perform skilled and semi‑skilled construction, maintenance, and repair work.
  • Operate various light, medium, and heavy equipment including a 3‑ton utility truck, backhoe, combination jetter and vacuum truck, dump truck, utility crane truck, hydro‑excavation equipment, and closed circuit TV.
  • Use power and hand tools and equipment to accomplish tasks.
  • Explain and enforce rules and regulations related to safety, barricading, traffic direction, hazardous materials, and equipment operation.
  • Maintain daily work records and perform computerized data entry.
  • Transport and set up supplies and equipment; perform required safety checks.
  • Install, test, maintain, and repair water mains, sewer mains, service valves, fire hydrants, manholes, and storm‑water facilities.
  • Tap water mains and install services and water meters.
  • Test, repair, maintain, replace, and relocate existing water meters.
  • Perform water turn‑off and turn‑on for scheduled maintenance and emergencies.
  • Respond to high‑volume water usage complaints.
  • Install, pull, relocate, test, repair, assemble, and read water meters.
  • Construct and maintain large meter vaults and manholes.
  • Excavate job sites, restore to pre‑work conditions.
  • Investigate sewer odors, stoppages, and roach requests including storm‑water issues.
  • Hydro‑clean sewer and storm lines to remove obstacles.
  • Assist in setting up, operating, and maintaining closed circuit television equipment and televising sewer and storm lines.
  • Operate city vehicles that require a commercial driver’s license (CDL).
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
