Position: Hourly City Worker / Youth Employment Apprentice

Position

This is an unclassified, non-civil service, hourly position with no medical, dental, or accrued leave benefits, except for AB1522 - Healthy Workplace Healthy Family Act.

Essential Functions

Provides exceptional customer service and upholds the highest ethical standards while delivering departmental services. Performs hillside brush clearance, weed abatement, landscaping, debris clearance, and other general labor tasks on private and public property. Carries out general office work and uses power and hand tools. Hauls and dumps debris, maintains tools and equipment, and works weekday, evening, and weekend hours. Assumes responsibility for safe and efficient performance of duties and performs related activities as assigned.

Education/Training

Graduation from high school or attainment of a GED or CHSPE certificate, or enrollment in high school.

Licenses/Certifications

Valid Class C California driver’s license required if over 18.

Special Conditions

Must obtain a valid work permit if under 18.

Provides exceptional customer service to employees and vendors; adapts to changing assignments; comprehends directions in English; establishes and maintains smooth working relationships; fosters teamwork; models ethical conduct; reads, writes, and comprehends directions in English; safely uses power and hand tools; works a flexible schedule, including weekends, evenings, and holidays; works independently; works outdoors in the sun and climbs hillsides.

Other Characteristics

Assumes responsibility for maintaining a safe working environment; demonstrates interest and capacity to develop positive leadership qualities; works overtime as requested or required.

Benefits

All hourly employees will be enrolled in the Public Agency Retirement System – Alternate Retirement System (PARS‑ARS). Hourly employees may also participate in the Flexible Benefit Plan.
