Position: TEMPORARY Limited Commissioned Title 33 Ranger – James M. Robb Colorado River State Park.

About the Department

The mission of the Colorado Department of Natural Resources is to develop, preserve, and enhance the state's natural resources for the benefit and enjoyment of current and future citizens and visitors. Location and Pay

Temporary position (9 months or less). Pay starts at $19.00 per hour, with potential increase based on experience.

Employment starts March–May through September–October. Position up to 40 hours per week. Housing not provided.

Position Overview

This unarmed law enforcement position enforces park laws and regulations; issues citations for violations; patrols park areas by vehicle, bicycle, or foot; responds to emergencies; resolves visitor complaints; completes reports; may appear in court; assists with revenue collection and verification, visitor services operations, education and interpretive programs; assists daily park operations; provides quality customer service; maintains facilities, cleans restrooms, repairs, and keeps cleanliness;

assists fee collection, accounting and deposits; and provides environmental education programs.

Responsibilities

Respond to emergencies; resolve visitor complaints; complete reports; assist in court appearances; enforce park laws; issue citations for violations; patrol park areas; assist revenue collection and verification; provide visitor services operations; conduct education and interpretive programs; maintain quality customer service; maintain facilities, including cleaning restrooms, repairs, and cleanliness; assist with fee collection, accounting and deposits; and provide environmental education programs.

Requirements
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be free of felony convictions or pending charges.
  • Must be able to obtain valid current First Aid and CPR certifications.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds repeatedly.
  • Must be able to work various shifts, days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Applicants must successfully complete a comprehensive background check.
  • Must attend and successfully complete required Colorado State Park training (may include full exposure to OC spray).
  • Preference may be given to applicants with or working toward a Natural Resources degree or similar education.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to climb, lift, balance, walk, stoop, and handle materials; ability to perceive color differences and hear verbal and radio communications.
