Overview

THIS IS A TEMPORARY POSITION (9 MONTHS OR LESS) – PAYING $18.00-$19.00 PER HOUR. EMPLOYMENT STARTS 03/01/2026 THROUGH 10/31/2026. This announcement will remain open until FILLED. JOB DESCRIPTION:

Non-Lead Inspector — Perform boat inspector and decontaminator responsibilities according to state regulations and standard protocols at Fort Morgan Port of Entry near Fort Morgan, Colorado. Work may be done independently or in pairs to inspect boats entering Colorado with respect to invasive species such as zebra/quagga mussels. Provide public outreach on the aquatic invasive species topic by distributing printed material to visitors.

The position reports directly to the inspection station supervisor. Boat inspection training will be provided. Early morning, evening, and weekend work are required.

Lead Inspector — Perform boat inspector and decontaminator responsibilities according to state regulations and standard protocols at Fort Morgan Port of Entry near Fort Morgan, Colorado. The site lead will provide on-the-job training to inspection staff, create schedules and ensure shifts are covered during operational hours, collect and verify accurate timekeeping records for payroll, collaborate with the area work lead to resolve staff and customer challenges, and assist with hiring decisions.

Additional responsibilities include ensuring staff follow standardized protocols, performing monthly quality control assessments, ensuring accurate data entry, maintaining inventory of supplies, performing basic maintenance and troubleshooting on the power washer/decontamination unit, and providing public outreach on aquatic invasive species. Early morning, evening, and weekend work are required.

Basic Requirements
  • Good driving record and ability to work weekends, early morning and late evenings.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent customer service experience working with the public.
  • This position requires outdoor physical work that may include climbing in and out of vessels/vehicles and/or under trailers to perform job functions.
  • Reliable and timely.
  • Ability to self-motivate and work independently.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older for Lead Position.
  • Must be 16 years of age or older for Non-Lead Position.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with boats, trailers, power washers, small engines and/or heavy equipment.

Pursuant to the State of Colorado policy, any worker who will be expected to drive a State-owned vehicle is responsible for maintaining a safe driving record and a valid driver license prior to driving any State-owned vehicle. MVRs will be reviewed for workers who have a State fleet vehicle, are required to operate a vehicle as part of the position, or use a State fleet vehicle as a pool vehicle.
