This position is required to work on‑site in our Chicagoland (Glenview, IL) office most days. Everyone receives 3 flexible remote days per month and 6 additional Friday PTO days each year! And, we offer half‑day Fridays – every Friday!
The Sr. Operational Accounting Specialist position is an exceptional opportunity to contribute to our growing insurance company by handling a variety of functions for our policyholders, agents/brokers, and key stakeholders.
Responsibilities- Serve as a key point of contact for agents, brokers, customers, policyholders, and internal partners by delivering responsive, high‑quality support via email and phone.
- Respond to and resolve commission‑related customer service inquiries by managing tickets accurately, efficiently, and with a strong focus on service quality.
- Develop technical expertise by learning systems such as People Soft and Life Pro, and apply that knowledge to support daily and monthly business processes.
- Support the implementation and enhancement of technology solutions that improve operational efficiency and effectiveness.
- Build, maintain, and manage commission structures to ensure accuracy and alignment with business needs.
- Review commission statements and payment activity to help ensure commissions are processed accurately and on time.
- Help resolve commission discrepancies and identify opportunities to proactively improve processes and reduce future errors.
- Support policy accounting activities by reviewing premium and policy transactions, validating data, and helping ensure accurate financial records.
- Research and resolve policy accounting discrepancies by analyzing transaction activity, partnering with internal teams, and supporting timely corrective action.
- Assist with policy accounting reconciliations, reporting, and month‑end processes to help ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with internal standards.
- Prepare, reconcile, and analyze commission‑related accounting activity to support accurate financial reporting and timely month‑end close processes.
- Research and resolve accounting variances by partnering with internal teams to validate data, investigate root causes, and support corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate commission and accounting records by reviewing transactions, supporting reconciliations, and ensuring documentation is complete and audit‑ready.
- Support month‑end and quarterly close activities by preparing reports, validating balances, and assisting with commission and general ledger‑related analysis.
- Contribute to projects and process improvements related to Operational Accounting functions.
- Play an active role in finance initiatives and cross‑functional projects that require strong problem‑solving, organization, and attention to detail.

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Experience in accounting operations, commissions administration, policy accounting, financial services, or a related business environment.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to research discrepancies, interpret data, and identify process improvements.
- High attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and provide excellent service to internal and external partners.
