A respected federal construction contractor is seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent / SSHO to lead field operations on government and military construction projects throughout the Chicagoland. This is a dual-role position responsible for both project execution and site safety leadership. The ideal candidate has a strong background managing federal construction projects while maintaining strict compliance with EM 385-1-1, OSHA, and contract-specific safety requirements.

Job Details

Construction Superintendent Responsibilities:

  • Lead all onsite construction activities from mobilization through project closeout.
  • Coordinate and supervise subcontractors, vendors, suppliers, and self-perform crews.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules to ensure milestones are achieved.
  • Conduct daily coordination meetings and oversee work sequencing.
  • Review plans, specifications, RFIs, and submittals to ensure quality execution.
  • Coordinate inspections, testing, and owner walkthroughs.
  • Track productivity, manpower, equipment utilization, and project progress.
  • Maintain project documentation including daily reports, photos, and field records.
  • Ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with contract requirements.

SSHO Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the designated Site Safety and Health Officer on federal projects.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain Accident Prevention Plans (APPs).
  • Prepare and review Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs) for all definable features of work.
  • Conduct daily safety inspections and audits.
  • Lead toolbox talks, safety meetings, and employee training sessions.
  • Ensure compliance with EM 385-1-1, OSHA regulations, and project-specific safety requirements.
  • Coordinate with government safety representatives and project stakeholders.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety concerns while implementing corrective actions.
  • Maintain safety documentation and reporting requirements.
  • Exercise stop-work authority when unsafe conditions exist.
