Registered Nurse – Outpatient Oncology

Full-time.

Salary Range: $34.50 - $55.20 per hour.

• Perform a comprehensive assessment on all assigned patients and document findings.
• Communicate changes in patient condition promptly.
• Use nursing diagnosis and assessment data to set realistic goals and document them as measurable objectives on the plan of care; modify the plan as needed.
• Identify and prioritize patient needs and nursing diagnoses.
• Collaborate with patients, families, and other health‑care team members when planning care and document accordingly.
• Assess patients for discharge planning and make appropriate referrals, including to palliative care.
• Evaluate patient response to interventions and adjust the plan of care as necessary.
• Ensure completed discharge instructions, medication reconciliation, and provide information to patients about using the patient portal and other resources.

• Support patient, family, and spiritual/cultural needs during assessment and education; identify learning level and readiness, and document education records.
• Use teach‑back methodology for medication education.
• Distribute Krames for patient education on clinical conditions.
• Use Culture Vision as a resource in care planning and delivery.
• Treat patients, families, and staff with respect and dignity.
• Value contributions of patients’ significant others as part of the care plan.
• Adhere to ethical practice standards.
• Request an ethics consult when appropriate.

• Implement interventions consistent with evidence‑based practice.
• Use evidence sources such as Ovid, Joanna Briggs, Up To Date , Culture Vision, and other reliable resources.
• Participate in the LADDER project or other unit/organization process improvements.
• Administer medication safely using barcode technology.
• Promote and protect patients’ health, safety, and rights.
• Provide complete, timely, accurate information during bedside shift reports.
• Round hourly in collaboration with patient‑care technicians.
• Maintain a safe environment and protect patient safety.
• Contribute to quality metrics on the care dashboard.
• Prevent pressure ulcers, falls, CAUTIs, and central line infections as applicable.
• Serve as a unit safety facilitator or quality initiative resource when requested.
• Participate in unit huddles.

• Oversee and direct patient‑care or support staff; maintain accountability for patient care.
• Demonstrate interpersonal leadership and resolve conflict appropriately.
• Perform charge‑nurse/preceptor duties when assigned, coordinating care for the entire unit.
• Take clinical lead when patient condition changes and consult with the primary physician to determine treatment plans or transfers.
• Serve as a role model and resource for new staff, students, and system personnel.
• Assist with precepting, orientation, and mentoring as requested.
• Participate in peer evaluation and clinical case peer review.
• Collaborate with hospital services to accomplish daily work and maintain excellence.
• Identify barriers to effective practice and communicate with leadership and operations.
• Ensure proper care‑order documentation in the EMR for all admissions.
• Adhere to supply charging protocols.
• Participate in value‑based unit or organizational initiatives.
• Commit to reducing overtime utilization.

• Ensure complete electronic and paper documentation.
• Utilize guardrails for the Alaris pump.
• Understand physiological monitoring and its impact on clinical management.
• Use the bed‑management system.
• Identify new technologies for unit, hospital, or system use.
• Participate in CEOC activities to advance and optimize the medical record.

• Attend internal professional development offerings such as Schwartz Rounds and Nursing Grand Rounds.
• Obtain certification in the nursing specialty of practice.
• Demonstrate accountability for professional competencies, ELM learning, and dress‑code adherence.
• Participate in professional organization membership, leadership, or committee work.
• Take assigned lunch breaks.
