Job Summary

The Patient Care Technician, under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practicing Nurse (LPN) and according to established procedures, performs patient care tasks and procedures necessary to provide for the care, comfort and safety of patients. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age(s) of the patients served on the assigned unit.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions
  • Patient & Visitor Interactions / Customer Service / Hourly Rounding: Interact with patients and visitors, answer call lights and phones, assist visitors, and perform purposeful hourly rounding on all assigned patients.
  • Patient Safe Handling / Ambulation / Repositioning: Learn and apply safe handling skills to assist in ambulation, transferring, lifting, and repositioning patients using equipment.
  • Basic Nursing Care – ADLs: Assist patients with personal care needs (bathing, grooming, oral care, eating, feeding, bedpan/urinal use, positioning), respond to call lights, and make beds under RN/LPN supervision.
  • Admission / Discharge / Transfers: Assist with room setup, welcome and orient new patients, discharge or transfer patients, and transport/escort patients safely while updating patients.
  • Procedures and Treatments: Accurately complete and document patient care activities, provide vital signs, weights, intake & output, collect specimens, perform point‑of‑care blood sugar testing, and perform procedures under nurse direction.
  • Care Companion / Sitter / Observer: Remain with a patient, as directed by RN/LPN, to keep the patient safe.

    Support the nursing team with indirect patient care duties such as restocking equipment, cleaning, filing, retrieving supplies, and handling specimens.
Minimum Requirements

Minimum Education Requirements
  • Eligible to work in the US
  • Completion of an accredited and certified nursing assistant (CNA) training course preferred
  • Completion of at least one nursing clinical rotation in medical or surgical nursing preferred
Minimum Licensure Requirements
  • Flow of work involves normal mental, visual, auditory attention, and manual dexterity for sustained periods. Requires adequate visual and auditory acuity.
  • Potential exposure to blood, body fluids, other potentially infectious materials, chemicals, and hazardous conditions that may pose a health risk.
  • Able to work under pressure to meet patient care needs.
Physical Demands (Select One)

When in the clinical environment, must use patient‑movement equipment for lifting and transfers. May need to assist with lifting up to 50 pounds in urgent situations. Wear appropriate PPE (e.g., N95 mask/PAPR) when required. Perform sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and lifting throughout the shift.

Technical Skills
