Hourly Pay Range

$18.84 - $27.32 – The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate’s expertise and years of experience, among other factors.

Job Summary

The Patient Care Technician works under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practicing Nurse to perform patient care tasks and procedures necessary to provide care, comfort and safety of patients, with knowledge and skills appropriate to the patients served on the assigned unit.

Responsibilities And Essential Functions
  • Patient & Visitor Interactions / Customer Service / Hourly Rounding – Interact with patients and visitors, answer call lights and phones, perform purposeful hourly rounding on all assigned patients.
  • Patient Safe Handling / Ambulation / Repositioning – Learn and apply safe handling skills to assist in ambulation, transfer, lift or reposition patients using safe patient handling equipment.
  • Basic Nursing Care – ADLs – Assist patients with personal care needs (bathing, grooming, oral care, eating, feeding, use of bedpan or urinal, positioning), respond to call lights, make beds, under RN/LPN supervision, following safety policies.
  • Admission / Discharge / Transfers – Assist with room setup, patient orientation, discharge or transfer, providing orientation to rooms and hospital, escort patients safely.
  • Procedures and Treatments – Accurately record patient care activities (ADL, vital signs, weights, intake & output, calorie counts), perform procedures under RN direction (e.g., urinary catheter removal, ECGs, wound care, dressing changes), collect non‑sterile specimens, perform point‑of‑care blood sugar tests, maintain skin integrity.
  • Care Companion / Sitter / Observer – Remain with a patient as directed to keep the patient safe.
  • Department Specific Tasks – Support nursing team with indirect patient care activities such as restocking, cleaning equipment, answering and relaying calls, filing records, retrieving and delivering supplies, specimens, instruments or test results.

Minimum Education Requirements
  • Eligible to work in the US
  • Completion of an accredited certified nursing assistant (CNA) training course preferred
  • Completion of at least one nursing clinical rotation in medical or surgical nursing preferred
Licenses / Certifications

Current BLS certification for the healthcare provider issued by either American Heart Association. If not current or does not have certification, it must be obtained within 90 days of hire.

  • Required to attend an in‑depth orientation regarding patient care skill tasks.
  • Expected to observe all fire and safety procedures and patient experience standards.

Environment
  • Requires normal mental, visual, auditory attention and manual dexterity for sustained periods.
  • Requires visual acuity adequate to assess patients and read/record charts; auditory acuity adequate to converse while wearing masks.
  • Potential exposure to blood, body fluids, chemicals and other hazardous conditions.
  • Must work under pressure to meet patient care needs.
  • Physical demands: lifting up to 50 pounds, using patient movement equipment, wearing PPE including N95/PAPR when applicable.
Technical Skills
