Position: Non-Certified (Non-PEL) School Nurse

Glenbrook South High School is seeking a compassionate and skilled Non-Certified (Non-PEL) School Nurse to provide specialized nursing care and health support for student(s) with complex medical needs and low-incidence disabilities. The nurse will play a critical role in ensuring the health, safety, access, and well-being of students throughout the school day, during school-related activities, and during transportation, including field trips.

The nurse will provide direct nursing services in the classroom setting and/or the Nurse’s Office and collaborate closely with educational staff, related service providers, families, and outside healthcare providers to support continuity of care and student success.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills are essential, including the ability to work effectively with nursing staff, teachers, administrators, and related service providers such as Speech Language Pathologists (SLP), Occupational Therapists (OT), Physical Therapists (PT), and other interdisciplinary team members.

The ideal candidate demonstrates compassion, professionalism, clinical competence, flexibility, and a strong commitment to supporting students with complex medical needs in the educational setting.

Education and/or Experience and Qualifications
  • Required current Illinois Registered Nurse License.
  • Minimum of an Associate’s degree in Nursing.
  • Preferred Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
  • Required current certification in CPR and knowledge of the use of AEDs.
  • Certification by the Illinois Department of Public Health in vision and hearing screening. (The school district will sponsor employees who do not have this certification to receive the requisite training from the Illinois Department of Public Health.)
  • Preferred school-based experience.
  • Key Responsibilities
    • Gastrostomy tube (G-tube) feedings and/or oral care
    • Monitoring nutrition and fluid intake
    • Medication administration
    • Tracheostomy (Trach) care and respiratory support
    • Intermittent catheterization and toileting support
    • Wheelchair and mobility support
    • Vital sign monitoring
    • Health care plan implementation and management
    • Documentation and communication regarding student health needs
    • Coordination and communication with parents/guardians and outside healthcare providers for continuity of care
