Jefferson County Open Space is currently hiring Trails Technicians for a unique role. The Mission of Jefferson County Open Space is to preserve open space and parkland, protect park and natural resources, and provide healthy nature-based experiences.

This is a full-time, limited position with a projected end date of 11/19/2026.

Hiring Range: $22.00 - $24.00 USD Hourly

Compensation will be determined based on education, experience, and skills.

The employment status is Limited (Fixed-Term) with an anticipated assignment end date of 11/19/2026 and is eligible for medical coverage starting the month after hire.

• Work involves constructing trails using hand tools and power tools and working around heavy equipment.
• Employee is responsible for maintaining trails, installing erosion control devices and inspecting the trail system.
• Work also involves vegetation control, constructing stairs, tie walls and fencing.
• This position may involve snow removal.

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent certificate.
• One year of work-related experience.
• Note an equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.

• One or more years of specifically trails maintenance/construction.
• Experience with Natural Resources and/or instruction.
• Additional coursework in Natural Resource Management, Outdoor Recreation, Park Maintenance or related field.

• Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment, including skid steer, roller/compactor, water pump, chainsaw and a variety of hand tools and power tools. Requires ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
