Lead Maintenance Worker
The City of Goleta is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Lead Maintenance Worker in the Public Works Department, supporting the Street Maintenance and the Parks and Open Space Divisions. Currently, the City is looking to fill two (2) vacancies.
The Lead Maintenance Worker provides maintenance and support to the City's splashpad, which includes routine cleaning, inspections, and minor repairs. As such, candidates must be available to work weekends, particularly from April to October. Candidates must also be available to work occasional nights. Flexible scheduling is essential to meet the demands of the role.
Strong teamwork and customer service skills are essential, as the position requires regular interaction with the Goleta community. Candidates may be involved in project planning and budget management within their assigned area. The ideal candidate will possess excellent problem-solving skills, a commitment to safety, and the ability to respond quickly to emergencies. A keen attention to detail, combined with effective communication and organizational skills, is needed to ensure work is completed to the highest standards, on time, and within budget.
When assigned to Parks and Open Space, this role will provide essential support in the performance and oversight of daily operations of staff and/or contractors maintaining park grounds and facilities, including landscaping, irrigation systems, playground equipment, urban forest management, and trails, ensuring proper safety procedures are followed, and performing more complex maintenance and repair work as needed.
When assigned to Street Maintenance, this role will provide essential support in the performance and oversight of daily operations of staff and/or contractors with the maintenance of city streets and right of way. Successful candidates will have experience operating equipment such as chainsaws, weed trimmers, and specialized tools, as well as experience in asphalt street repairs, concrete sidewalk repairs, painting, and weed abatement.
Depending on the needs of the department and subject to certification, this position may be eligible for Bilingual Pay, currently at $65 per pay period.
This recruitment will include an oral panel interview and practical examination. Employment offers will be contingent upon a successful physical and drug screening, as well as a criminal history background check.
