The Parks & Recreation Department is seeking a dependable part-time Mechanic Assistant to support the maintenance and repair of small engine equipment used in park operations, including mowers, carts, blowers, and trimmers.

This position will assist with routine maintenance tasks such as changing oil and filters, replacing mower blades, performing minor tire repairs, and picking up parts. The ideal candidate should have basic mechanical knowledge, be reliable, and be able to work independently as well as part of a team.

The ideal candidate for this position will be a self-starter with working knowledge of basic tools and shop mechanic equipment. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a small engine or automotive field performing minor repairs and preventative maintenance. Flexibility in work hours and shifts will be important to accommodate this position.

Examination Process

Only a limited number of the most highly qualified applicants meeting the City’s requirements will be invited for an interview. Examination process for this position will include:
Panel Interview

  • Inspect, diagnose, and locate mechanical malfunctions; replace or repair faulty parts including bearings, gaskets, belts, gears and blades
  • Maintain, troubleshoot and repair a variety of park related equipment including mowers, weeding machines, chain saws, blowers, fertilizer and spraying
  • Clean tools and equipment, empty trash and recycle bins, sweep and mop floors, bathroom clean up
  • Pick up parts from vendors

Experience working in a small engine or automotive field highly preferred.

A valid Driver's License is required.
