Electro-Mechanical Technician
Department: Maintenance
Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor / Manager
Location: Goodyear, Arizona
Pay Rate: $32.95 - $37.00
Position SummaryThe Electro-Mechanical Technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing production equipment, utilities, and facilities to ensure maximum uptime, product quality, employee safety, and compliance with food safety and regulatory standards. The role supports production efficiency, continuous improvement initiatives, and adherence to the production schedule through effective troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and technical expertise.
Key Areas of Responsibility- Maintain and service production lines, prep areas, storage areas (dry and finished goods), chillers, fire and safety systems, buildings, grounds, CIP systems, and bulk chemical handling equipment.
- Ensure all maintenance activities meet or exceed regulatory standards, including:
- National Electrical Code (NEC)
- Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) guidelines
- Local and state environmental regulations
- Install, repair, troubleshoot, and maintain mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
- Repair food manufacturing equipment such as dough mixers, conveyor systems, pretzel baking ovens, cookers, and packaging equipment (baggers, case packers, case sealers, metal detectors).
- Perform electrical troubleshooting on motors, contractors, overloads, photoeyes, and proximity switches.
- Perform mechanical repairs including gearboxes, pumps, conveyor systems, and bearing/shaft replacements.
- Work with Allen Bradley PLC systems, servo motors, servo drives, and VFDs for machine control and automation.
- Conduct preventive and predictive maintenance (PM/PdM) using ultrasound, thermal imaging, oil analysis, and vibration analysis.
- Calibrate and adjust process equipment to OEM specifications.
- Execute both planned and unplanned work, documenting findings in the SAP system.
- Follow all plant and departmental safety procedures (Lockout/Tagout, Arc Flash, Hot Work Permits).
- Adhere to GMPs and food safety protocols.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA and other applicable workplace safety regulations.
- Apply root cause analysis, breakdown failure analysis, and cause mapping to identify and correct recurring issues.
- Recommend and implement process improvements to reduce downtime and improve reliability.
- Support Autonomous Maintenance initiatives, including cleaning, inspection, and lubrication training for operators.
- Interpret and work from blueprints, P&IDs, single-line electrical drawings, pneumatic and hydraulic schematics, and OEM manuals.
- Communicate clearly with operations, maintenance, and vendors to resolve issues and coordinate repairs.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, blueprints, and common industry publications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills at all levels.
- Effective teamwork and collaborative problem‑solving.
- Basic arithmetic proficiency (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) with whole numbers, decimals, fractions, and mixed numbers.
- Proficiency in precision measuring tools and conversion between feet/inches and decimal formats.
- Ability to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Proficient in SAP for data entry, work order documentation, and maintenance records.
- Strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Sound decision‑making under pressure and time‑sensitive situations.
- Associate’s degree, technical certification, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Strong background in industrial control systems, Allen Bradley PLC troubleshooting, servo systems, and VFDs.
- Experience troubleshooting food manufacturing equipment (dough mixers, conveyors, ovens, cookers, packaging systems).
- Experience in food or beverage manufacturing strongly preferred.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Forklift and aerial lift certification (or ability to obtain).
- Mechanical/electrical certifications preferred but not required.
