Job Description

Schedule:

This is a full-time (40 hours per week) position on the USM Gorham campus. The schedule is third shift as follows:

  • Sunday 10:00pm to Monday 6:00am
  • Monday 10:00pm to Tuesday 6:00am
  • Tuesday 10:00pm to Wednesday 6:00am
  • Wednesday 10:00pm to Thursday 6:00am
  • Thursday 10:00pm to Friday 6:00am

This is an essential position with the expectation that team members report to work on snow/storm days and other days when campus is closed.

Responsibilities
  • Independently leads night shift custodial crew, including providing work direction, assigning work responsibilities, supervising crew members, coordinating project steps for projects assigned to the crew, and conducting work inspections to ensure work is completed according to specifications and standards.
  • Performs the same or similar work as the custodial crew, including cleaning, disinfecting, and general maintenance duties across campus facilities; assisting with events, trash removal, snow removal, and building security; providing courteous, cooperative service to all campus and external stakeholders.
  • Explains processes, procedures, and standards to employees and enforces safety and procedural standards.
  • Places orders for supplies and collecting necessary materials and equipment.
Required Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.), or international degree equivalency, and sufficient experience including three (3) years of custodial-related work experience.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and pass a driving history check to operate University vehicles.
  • Proven ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Proven experience getting along with co-workers, supervisors and building occupants.
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision.
  • Previous lead or supervision experience.
  • The ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and/or exert more than 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects, be capable of standing for extended periods of time, and flexible enough for bending and reaching.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience operating custodial cleaning equipment.
  • Previous experience leading a crew or coordinating small projects such as floor finishing and/or event set ups.
