Position Summary:

The Systems Supervisor provides operational leadership, technical expertise, and strategic oversight for the college’s core mechanical, electrical, plumbing, energy-management, and life-safety infrastructure. This working supervisor role requires hands‑on troubleshooting, contractor coordination, project management, and
collaborative leadership aligned with the college’s community-centered mission.

This is a full‑time position eligible for full benefits. Hourly wages are approximately $30.54.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership and Management

  • Lead, mentor, schedule, and evaluate the Systems Department staff.
  • Assign daily work orders, preventive maintenance tasks, and emergency‑response rotations.
  • Build a culture of safety, continuous learning, accountability, and high‑quality customer service.
  • Provide technical direction and supervision for all Systems Department work.

Technical Oversight and Maintenance

  • Oversee operation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, boiler, and related mechanical systems.
  • Manage the Building Automation System / Energy Management System to improve energy efficiency, comfort, and indoor air quality.
  • Supervise high‑ and low‑voltage electrical distribution, lighting, motors, controls, plumbing, and backflow prevention systems.
  • Ensure fire alarms, suppression systems, emergency lighting, backup generators, and egress systems remain compliant and operational.
  • Develop seasonal preparedness plans, including winterization, freeze prevention, boiler redundancy checks, and severe‑weather response.

Operations, Compliance, and Project Support

  • Manage relationships with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, controls, and life‑safety contractors.
  • Maintain accurate inspection records, permits, maintenance logs, and compliance documentation.
  • Ensure campus systems meet applicable code and safety requirements.
  • Support capital renewal planning, equipment replacement, and deferred‑maintenance tracking.
  • Assist the AVP for Facilities Management with the annual operating and capital budget planning.
Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Energy) or related field; equivalent technical certifications and experience considered.
  • Minimum of 5‑7 years of progressive commercial or institutional facilities‑maintenance experience.
  • At least 2‑3 years in a supervisory or lead technician role.
  • Strong working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, energy‑management, and fire/life‑safety systems.
  • Technical skills in at least one of the following trades: HVAC, Electrical, or Plumbing.
  • Ability to communicate technical issues clearly to faculty, staff, students, administrators, and contractors.
  • Experience with automated building‑management systems such as Siemens, KMC, Honeywell, or similar platforms.
  • Ability to respond to after‑hours campus emergencies and winter‑weather events within a reasonable driving distance.
  • Strong analytical skills for evaluating energy trends and diagnosing system inefficiencies.
  • Ability to manage complex projects, meet deadlines, stay on budget, and work collaboratively
    across departments.

Preferred:

  • Experience in higher education or a multiple‑building, campus‑like environment.
  • Knowledge of energy conservation, green building practices, and long‑term infrastructure planning.
Supervisory Responsibility:
  • Supervise the Energy Systems Manager and full‑time Systems Technicians
  • Oversee and direct the work of 1 regular independent Systems contractor

Required:

  • Proficient with computer systems and basic programming.
