Job Title

Maintenance Technician

Job Description

This position exists to provide a safe and pleasant environment for recreational activities by cleaning, repairing, replacing and operating equipment, systems, facilities, grounds and infrastructure for the use of park visitors and staff. Scheduling for this position is dictated by peak visitation patterns. Provides management support by recruiting, interviewing, hiring, scheduling and training all maintenance personnel. Inspects for needed maintenance of 75 campsites, group picnic area, camper services building, visitor center, swim beach, bath house and trails between Fruita and Connected Lakes.

Assist the east end park resource technician with similar job functions as the need arises. Care for non-developed properties of the park with an emphasis placed upon areas downstream from Connected Lakes. Makes recommendations to the PM IV regarding work projects, budget, equipment and temporary personnel needs.

Facility Maintenance

Conducts daily inspections of all facilities. Ensures that safety hazards are resolved expeditiously. Performs preventative maintenance on all facilities/equipment to protect state assets. Performs custodial maintenance to provide visitors with a clean, sanitary and safe facility. Maintain facilities in optimum working condition and in compliance with applicable local, state and federal regulations. Maintain infrastructure, supplies and equipment necessary for facility maintenance.

Maintain required records. Assist in developing long-term controlled maintenance plans to address major facility and infrastructure renovation and/or replacement.

Grounds Maintenance

Conducts daily inspections of all grounds. Ensures that safety hazards are resolved expeditiously. Maintains access to all hard surface trails, roadways and boat ramps. Access must be in compliance with applicable local, state and federal regulations. Landscaping functions include irrigating when and where appropriate, mowing and trimming in accordance with management plan, and the application of herbicide when and where appropriate.

Infrastructure, supplies and equipment necessary for grounds maintenance remains in optimum working condition. Maintain required records.

Equipment Maintenance

Conducts daily inspections of all vehicles and capital equipment. Ensures that safety hazards are resolved expeditiously. Performs preventative maintenance to protect state assets. Maintains equipment in optimum working condition and in compliance with local, state and federal regulations. Maintain required records.

Utility Maintenance

Oversee operation of all water and sewer lines and sewage lift stations and their maintenance and repair. Coordinate with the City of Fruita personnel to ensure proper operation of sewer systems and to avoid environmental emergencies. Attend training sessions involving water and sewer systems. Monitor parks electrical system, make repairs within scope of authority and training or "outsource" repairs where appropriate.

Temporary Work Program Recruits, interviews, hires, schedules, trains, disciplines and mentors temporary staff assigned to the maintenance section. Assigns and inspects tasks, equipment and methods for work projects. Coordinates work crews, schedules and projects. Inspects and approves work done. Budget Plans distribution of allocated maintenance operating funds. Recommends increases, plans special projects, expenditures (e.g. vegetative management, MRMI etc.) Plans and makes purchases of equipment and consumable supplies.

Develops controlled maintenance and preventative maintenance plans for all facilities. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications , Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

Minimum Qualifications Four (4) years of relevant experience in construction, Natural Resources, Engineering, P.E / Professional Engineer, Water resources planning or management, Certified Trades, facility maintenance/management, HVAC, plumbing, welding, electrical resource management, wildlife habitat management, rangeland management, farming, or ranching, specifically pesticide/herbicide application, vertebrate control, invasive species management (aquatic and terrestrial) or an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position.

OR A combination of related education in construction or project management, natural resources, environmental science, recreation management, business or a related field of study and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to four (4) years Job Class:
Technician

Preferred Qualifications Current or former State experience relevant to this position. Current or former Colorado Parks & Wildlife work or volunteer experience. Possesses current trade certifications or licenses.
