Airport Operations Technician

In this position, you will learn a great deal about airport operations, working independently at times, and alongside a tight-knit team at other times, to maintain the interior and exterior of the Airport facilities and grounds by performing routine maintenance.

Essential

Job Functions
  • Maintains the interior of facilities by painting walls; vacuuming and cleaning carpets; buffing and mopping floors; moving and assembling furniture; dusting and polishing furniture; removing trash; and replacing interior lights.
  • Maintains the exterior of facilities by sweeping sidewalks; using the pressure washer to clean outside walls and sidewalks; removing litter, debris, and trash; mowing lawns; and replacing exterior lights.
  • Maintains grounds by picking up litter; cleaning and repairing restrooms; emptying trash barrels; mowing grass; trimming trees; planting shrubs and flowers; and maintaining turf.
  • Provides customer service to the public by providing information as requested and ensuring the security of guests.
  • All other duties as assigned by a supervisor/manager within your department/division.
Minimum Qualifications

Any combination equivalent to experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may qualify. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be:

  • Education: Work requires the ability to read and understand written instructions, to understand simple processes and the routine operation of machines. Level of knowledge equivalent to less than high school or equivalency.
  • Experience: 1-2 years of related experience.
  • Licenses: Valid Driver's License required.
  • Certifications Required:
  • Reading: Intermediate
    - Ability to read and understand papers, periodicals, journals, manuals, written directions, policies, etc. Typically, this level is obtained in high school up to college.
  • Math: Intermediate
    - Ability to deal with system of real numbers; practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios/proportions and measurement; typically this level is obtained in high school up to college.
  • Writing: Intermediate
    - Ability to write reports, prepare business letters, expositions, and summaries with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in high school up to college. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.
  • Managerial: The employee normally performs the duty assignment after general instructions, procedures, methods are communicated. Employee has some discretion on a limited basis when confronted with choices.
  • Budget Responsibility: None.
  • Supervisory / Organizational Control: Job does not supervise others.
  • Complexity: Work involves choices of actions within limits set by standard practices and procedures. Professional judgement is required to apply the proper course of action.
  • Interpersonal / Human Relations Skills: Conversations occur 20% or less of the time

OVERALL PHYSICAL STRENGTH DEMANDS: The physical demands of this position are considered medium in nature and primarily involve work in an office setting. Typically, this means exerting 20-50 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10 lbs. constantly. PHYSICAL and NON-PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This position includes the following physical demands in the daily course and scope of duties: constant use of vision when inspecting facilities and diagnosing repairs;

constant use of vision when attending safety meetings, radio, and equipment; constant use of talking to control tower personnel, employees, and the general public; frequently sitting when filing inspection reports, logging fuel records, and driving truck; frequently walking and lifting when picking up litter, materials, and while weed eating; frequently carrying tools and materials to work site; frequently pushing and pulling when working with the push mower;

frequently handling power tools and hand tools; frequent use of fine dexterity when using tools and equipment; frequently bending and twisting when using parts; equipment, and doing ground maintenance; frequent use of foot controls when driving vehicle and using mowing equipment; occasionally standing when doing paint work; occasionally climbing and…
