The Manzanita Rest Area is a vital stop for travelers along I‑5—and we’re looking for a dependable, hands‑on Rest Area Specialist to help keep it running smoothly. As a Rest Area Specialist, you’ll be one of the key caretakers of the site.

Working alongside the Rest Area Supervisor, you’ll help maintain buildings and grounds, ensure a welcoming environment, and support contractors and on‑site staff. Every day brings variety, teamwork, and meaningful contributions to Oregon’s travelers.

• Keep facilities and grounds clean, safe, and in top shape.
• Perform daily inspections, basic maintenance, and landscaping.
• Operate equipment such as mowers and power tools.
• Complete minor plumbing, carpentry, and electrical repairs.
• Support contractors and fill‑in staff when needed.
• Help travelers and make sure site rules are followed.
• Communicate clearly with your team, supervisor, and other partners.

Works in and around buildings, facilities, and grounds, both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. Uses vision, hearing, manual dexterity, communication, and motor skills to perform duties, including emergency response. Navigates inclines, stairs, and rough or slippery terrain. Lifts and maneuvers objects up to 50 pounds. Uses ladders, reaches above shoulder height, and performs tasks on hands and knees. Regular duties include bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, climbing, twisting, pushing, and pulling.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Six months of experience operating heavy or light motorized equipment, using hand and power tools, performing minor servicing of equipment, general landscaping, maintenance, mechanical, farming, logging, and/or construction experience, or training.
• Special Requirements/Licenses:
  You must have a valid driver’s license issued by the state where the employee resides. You also must obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification and Bloodborne Pathogens training from an agency-accepted certification authority. You must reside within a 60‑minute travel distance to the Rest Area. If relocating, the move must be completed within 90 days of the start date.
• Desired Attributes:
  Experience performing basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical work, painting, cleaning, and landscaping. Knowledge of how to operate irrigation systems. Knowledge of state and federal safety regulations, including proper use of personal protective equipment and safe work practices. Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing. Experience providing excellent customer service in a professional or volunteer setting. Familiar with Microsoft Office programs like email, spreadsheets, and word documents to help with reports and record‑keeping.
  
  Proven ability to manage tasks, meet deadlines, and stay organized in a fast‑paced environment.
