Maintenance​/ Custodial Worker

Grayslake Area Public Library is seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Custodial/Maintenance worker to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for patrons and staff. this part-time position involves performing routine building upkeep, managing events setups , and executing minor facility repairs

• Facility Cleaning: Perform daily cleaning activities including vacuuming carpets, mopping hard floors, dusting furniture, and disinfecting public restrooms.
• Minor Repairs: Troubleshoot and perform minor fixes on equipment, replace light bulbs, and assist with small painting or carpentry tasks.
• Room Setup & Tear Down: Set up and rearrange chairs, tables, and multimedia equipment for library programs, community meetings, and board events.
• Grounds Upkeep: Maintain the library's exterior appearance by collecting trash and clearing snow or ice from walkways and main entrances during inclement weather.
• Safety & Security: Follow all established safety procedures and report larger building issues directly to the Facilities Manager.

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience: Prior experience in custodial work, commercial cleaning, or basic building maintenance is highly preferred.
• Skills: Proficiency with basic hand tools and electrical maintenance equipment (e.g., floor buffers, vacuums, snowblowers).
• Physical Stamina: Manual dexterity and the physical ability to lift heavy objects (like tables and trash bins), stand for long periods, and work in various weather conditions.
• Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate professionally with library staff and comfortably interact with community patrons.

License: A valid driver's license is preferred.

This position is part-time with an average work week of 13.50 hours per week Monday and Wednesday 6:30pm
-10:30pm Saturday’s 1:30pm
-5:30pm, 1 Sunday a month 12:30pm-6:00pm
