Limited Commissioned Ranger​/Lead Inspector – Limon Port of Entry

Job Overview

This is a temporary law enforcement position with Colorado Parks and Wildlife. The role will last nine months or less and pays $19.00 per hour. Employment starts March 8, 2026 and ends October 31, 2026. The position is unarmed and involves extensive customer service and public contact while enforcing state parks and wildlife laws.

• Perform boat inspector and decontaminator responsibilities at the Limon Port of Entry.
• Provide on‑job training, create schedules, and ensure shift coverage.
• Collect and verify accurate time‑keeping records for payroll.
• Coordinate with area work leads to resolve staff and customer challenges.
• Recommend hiring or firing decisions to area work leads.
• Conduct monthly quality‑control assessments to confirm staff follows standardized protocols.
• Maintain data entry accuracy and inventory of required supplies.
• Perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting of power washer and decontamination units.
• Provide public outreach on aquatic invasive species.
• Work early morning, evening, and weekend hours as required.
• Enforce Colorado Parks and Wildlife rules, issue citations for violations, resolve visitor complaints, and appear in court if necessary.
• Answer questions regarding aquatic invasive species.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• 21 years of age or older.
• Current and valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• No marijuana used in the past 12 months and no illegal drugs used in the past 36 months.
• No felony or domestic violence conviction, and no misdemeanors that prohibit POST certification.
• Available for various shifts including evenings, weekends, holidays, and inclement weather.
• Capable of outdoor physical work such as climbing, lifting, and balancing.
• May be required to purchase limited uniform items at own expense.
• Must attend and complete required Colorado State Park training (may include OC spray).
• Valid or obtainable First Aid and CPR certifications.
• Able to work with limited supervision and effectively in a team.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills for customer service.
• Basic computer skills with MS Office and Google Apps.
• Preference for applicants with or pursuing a Natural Resources degree or related education.

The position requires significant use of arms and legs, including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials. Ability to perceive color differences and respond to verbal and radio communications is necessary.
