Overview

THIS IS A TEMPORARY POSITION (9 MONTHS OR LESS) - PAYING $18.00 -$19.00 PER HOUR. EMPLOYMENT STARTS 04/11/2026-10/11/2026. This posting is for both LEAD and GENERAL Watercraft Inspector & Decontaminator. The posting remains open until filled.

This is a customer service-based position that involves inspecting for invasive Zebra/Quagga Mussels, Milfoil, or other plant species on boats and personal watercraft at an inspection point at Jumbo Reservoir. Early morning, evening, and weekend work is required.

Responsibilities
  • LEAD Aquatic Nuisance Species (ANS) Inspector: Perform boat inspector and decontaminator responsibilities according to state regulations and standard protocols at Jumbo Reservoir near Crook, Colorado. Provide on-the-job training to inspection staff, create schedules and ensure all shifts are covered during operational hours, collect and verify accurate timekeeping records for payroll, collaborate with area work lead to resolve staff and customer challenges, and make recommendations on hiring/firing to the area work lead.

    Ensure inspection station staff follow standardized protocols by performing monthly quality control assessments, ensure accurate data entry by all staff, maintain inventory of all required supplies, perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting on power washer/decontamination unit, and provide public outreach on aquatic invasive species.
  • STAFF ANS Inspector: Perform boat inspector and decontaminator responsibilities according to state regulations and standard protocols. Work independently or in pairs to inspect boats launching and leaving the reservoir for invasive species (e.g., zebra/quagga mussels). Provide public outreach by distributing printed material. The position reports directly to the boat ramp supervisor. Boat inspection training will be provided. Early morning, evening, and weekend work is required.
Qualifications

LEAD – MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Good driving record and ability to work weekends, early mornings, and late evenings.

• Good communication skills, both written and verbal.

• Excellent customer service experience working with the public.

• Reliable and timely.

• Ability to self-motivate and work independently.

LEAD – PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma.

• Experience with boats, trailers, power washers, small engines, and/or heavy equipment preferred.

• Experience with Microsoft Word applications – Word, Excel, Access.

NON-LEAD (STAFF) – MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Ability to work weekends, early mornings, and late evenings.

• Good communication skills, both written and verbal.

• Excellent customer service experience working with the public desired.

• Reliable and timely.

• Ability to self-motivate and work independently.

Additional notes
Public outreach on aquatic invasive species topics. Training provided for boat inspection. Early morning, evening, and weekend shifts are required.
