Maintenance Manager

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading all maintenance and reliability activities within a continuous-process chemical manufacturing facility. This role provides leadership and direction for mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation maintenance teams while ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable plant operations. Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, the Maintenance Manager partners closely with operations and engineering teams to support daily production needs, turnaround execution, capital projects, and long-term asset reliability initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and promote a strong safety culture with a focus on protecting employees, the environment, and surrounding communities.
  • Provide leadership and direction for all maintenance personnel, ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards.
  • Develop and implement maintenance strategies that improve equipment reliability, plant performance, and overall operational efficiency.
  • Establish, monitor, and continuously improve maintenance and reliability programs, including preventative and predictive maintenance initiatives.
  • Coordinate all mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation activities during plant turnarounds and shutdowns, with a focus on minimizing downtime and controlling costs.
  • Develop and track maintenance performance metrics and KPIs to drive continuous improvement and accountability.
  • Evaluate and enhance training programs for maintenance technicians and supervisors to improve technical capabilities and workforce development.
  • Oversee planning and scheduling functions to ensure maintenance resources are utilized effectively and work is executed efficiently.
  • Manage maintenance budgets by monitoring expenditures, forecasting future needs, and prioritizing resources to meet business objectives.
  • Coordinate and oversee contractors, vendors, and external service providers supporting plant maintenance activities.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to support capital project execution and ensure effective use of capital resources.
  • Support compliance with Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements, mechanical integrity programs, and applicable industry regulations.
  • Participate in strategic planning efforts and contribute to the development of long-term maintenance and reliability objectives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support plant operations and business goals.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of maintenance leadership experience, preferably within a chemical manufacturing or continuous-process environment.
  • Strong understanding of maintenance and reliability practices for industrial process equipment.
  • Experience managing maintenance teams responsible for mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems.
  • Knowledge of ammonia, nitric acid, ammonium nitrate, fertilizer, explosives, or related chemical manufacturing processes preferred.
  • Strong understanding of Process Safety Management (PSM), Mechanical Integrity programs, pressure vessels, piping systems, and applicable industry codes.
  • Experience with Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) systems, CMMS platforms, and maintenance planning tools.
  • Proven ability to manage maintenance budgets, shutdowns, turnarounds, and capital project support activities.
  • Strong knowledge of maintenance KPIs and reliability metrics.
  • Excellent leadership, mentoring, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, project management, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and reporting tools.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and respond to operational needs in a 24/7 manufacturing environment.
